Not rare. Not produced anymore but always available on the internet in hundreds of styles.

if you Google you will find some people that say it is a sleeper collector item. I don't buy it. It doesn't seem to have done either the dress or the sport quite well so it's so weird amalgam between the two.

If it's one Rolex to rule them all you're looking for go for a classic: sub, DJ, GMT. If you're going to have many in your collection, then you need to have a Thunderbird for the nostalgia.

It's not rare, and the price is high. Keep doing your research.

Old style Turn O Graph dial is cool, but not necessarily rare.

My understanding on the 1625 is that the white gold and yellow gold bezel inserts are very much more common than the stainless steel insert, almost to the point that the SS could be considered a rarity. Does anyone have any poignant knowledge about this bit of hearsay?

The bezel (there is no insert as the bezel is one-piece) looks to be WG, and the ad has no info on the bezel being stainless steel (I'm not aware that existed).

I agree with oxzilla. I like weird watches but wouldn't buy a TOG. If you're looking for a classic currently-underappreciated sports model I recommend the black-dial 16550 or 16570; if you're looking for a classic currently-underappreciated dress model I recommend the 1018. Or the aforementioned Sub, DJ, or GMT, but only DJs are reasonably priced nowadays.

Frankly if I were in the position of MUST HAVE A ROLEX in the current market I'd just ask one of the members here for a 1600 or 1603. As part of my worldwide survey of old coots sitting in bars I've met more than a couple that bought their DJ from a PX back in the sixties and wore 'em through thick and thin every day since...that's a pretty powerful endorsement. Anyway good luck to you.

Rare is incorrect, unusual is a better description. In fact I think they are a great alternative to the usual Datejust and a brilliant hybrid of dress/tool watch, particularly these early 1625 models. I am biased though.

OP has left the building (as in this forum). Won’t be back.

My guess is too many “is it worth it?” posts.
