Rolex GMT 1675 Hand Restoration

Hi Guys,

I recently had a GMT in for restoration and the hands had been re-lumed by the previous watchmaker. A terrible job had been done so I re-lumed them to look much more age appropriate. It's such a shame that things like this have to be done, but too many so-called 'watchmaker's' don't respect and understand vintage watches.

I wouldn’t mind sharing at all. I did the work. I’m a watchmaker who specializes in vintage restoration.

So how does one go about re-coloring the hands?

Also if say after many year, I'm talking like 30 years, will the dial lumes darken futher with patina and the hands remain their color? I'm just curious how those hands will age.

How it is done is a trade secret ;)

To be honest, I don't know how they will age with the dial. I have never waited 30 years to find out. It is a very interesting question though and I am now curious about the answer myself.

No, there is no glow. It's not just painted though, it is luminous paint as that is needed to get the right texture.
