I agree with you Gus. I do not post often on that types of thread and when there are no pictures and very few details I found them pretty much useless (for the OP, especially).

The Sub-lime One... I have to confess that your avatar disturbs me...
In general, I have noted that my brain interprets avatars as emoticons. For instance there is a member (can't remember the name) who has a smiling dog as avatar. Anytime I read his/her posts I am under the impression that he/she is being sarcastic/ironic because of the picture next to it.

Agreed...No pics, I skip it.

That said, I'm not a fan of those threads at all. I guess this is my chance to get my mini-rant out there----Going to buy an $8000 watch? Do some research, go check them out at the store, and then choose your own watch like a man. I don't know about you, but the last thing I need is a bunch of other guys, from various social standings, professions, countries, and with different tastes, sizes & weights telling me what to buy. If I'm buying a Rolex, it's going to be the one that I really want and that's right for me...period

I'm another who usually steers clear of the X vs Y preference threads, as well as the food and clothes threads. Even then I spend far too much time here than I should.

True...but it's too easy here, with internet access everywhere , pretty much any
free time where there's nothing else to do becomes potential watch forum time.

Wife's in the washroom at the mall = TRF time
Sitting on the MTR = TRF time
Waiting for someone to show up to a meeting = TRF time
Eating alone? = TRF time
etc etc etc etc....

The thing about such posts that gets me is that the OPs will often simply ask if they should by, say, a Yachtmaster II or a DSSD, without acknowledging that there are some significant differences between the two functionally or how they might put those functions to good use.

How can anyone offer any advice about such a choice, except to offer a personal preference?

From my perspective, there just isn't much to say.

And the reality is that the answers are typically a complete mixed bag rendering the opinion
of the group moot anyway.

I think it looks a lot like the clown from the movie, It.
So there's a good reason to find it freaky.
