Icon7 Looking for new rolex: AD or gray market?

I'm excited to be a part of this forum!

I am looking at purchasing either a new OP no date or a new datejust, domed bezel, oyster bracelet, stainless steel, blue face, index hour markers and Arabic numerals. (no numerals on the datejust)

We visited a local AD dealer today. It came out to 5800 for the no date and 7000 for the datejust, including tax. Both come with a 2-year Rolex warranty and an additional 1-year warranty thru the AD.

It looks like I can buy the same new watch at Alan Furman or Swissluxury for 4600 total for the no date or 5800 total for the datejust. It looks like they both would come with a 3-year warranty thru Alan Furman or Swissluxury.

Is it worth the 1200 savings to buy from AF or SL?

I'm thinking for 5800, I'd rather have the datejust from AF or SL than the OP no date from the AD.

Thanks!!!

If you buy from a seller here, the watch will have come from an AD so you will still get the Rolex warranty and not the third party warranty. You will lose the extra year warranty offered by the AD, obviously.

Takuya is a great seller and he is located in Texas so you could personally meet with him.

I'd really enjoy saving $1,200. That's why I'm leaning toward the datejust from AF or SL for $5800.

Bought my first from an AD, with whom I have had a long and good relationship, and I got what I think was a good deal. Having said that, I bought two more watches from dealers that I learned about and researched here on TRF. A vintage from Jacek of HQ Milton, and a newer watch from Tony Geha, aka Justrolexes. Both of these transactions went very smoothly and I will gladly buy from them again.

What are the non-financial differences between buying from a AD and a TRF trusted source? I don't see a downside.

Take it to the local AD if I have an issue, either in the first few years or down the road?

Take it to the local AD for any maintenance needs down the road?

Would I take it to a local AD for issue if I bought it from AF or SL? I assume I'd send it back to them.

Thanks!

There are two theories to follow and both are good ones. There are those who buy from AD's because they like the in store experience and like the "security" of purchasing directly from an authorized dealer. On the other hand purchasing from a trusted seller here is also foolproof and allows for saving some $$$$'s! Many forum members do both depending upon model (and make if not Rolex). Do what makes you comfortable.

.+1 for thanh do

Bought my BNIB SubC from him a few weeks ago, came straight from AD, well below msrp and no tax even.

Plus he's in SA so you could drive and meet him.

Thanks for all of the tips. I've given the purchase a lot of thought.

When it comes to buying a stainless steel watch, would it maybe better to buy used? Or if you can afford new, then just buy new for someone reputable and have that 99.9% peace of mind?
