There are many beautifully serviced and updated vintage pieces out there. I still cant find the thread here, but there is someone who had there 1680 updated and it looks amazing.

Assuming this is a serious question, I agree that your best option is to buy an ugly one and send it to Rolex for an update. Sellers always ask too much for their watches that are already updated with service parts.

If you like thin lugs on the case... that would be the way to go.

Or if your budget is US$35K and above there must be a few that are near-NOS and I believe those pieces probably only come up on in-person deals...

It sounds like you’re budget conscious, or at least sensible enough to not want to turn a $12k watch into a $7k watch. I know it’s blasphemy to some but another option is buying a nice watch and having an independent source the service parts you want. You can sell the original parts to make up for some of the loss in value.

I *believe* that is a vintage service dial that he did his due diligence to obtain thru Rolex in Switzerland by sending a letter and making phone calls. The squeaky wheel got the grease. It was a great story *if* that's the watch I'm thinking of.

To me that's a big difference then getting a modern service dial on a 45 year old watch.

If the watch you posted is an original to the watch dial, then it'll sell for a heck of a lot more than his budget.

EDIT: I see Kingface66 found it! That's the one
