Plot supposedly involves some element of either Maverick needing to steal back a F-14 or the Navy needing to bring back a mothballed 14 for some climatic engagement.

It will also involve Maverick flying a high performance prototype plane (and ejecting), hence the high altitude suit.

I heard through the grapevine he wasn’t very cordial with the naval aviators that flew in the film. He also supposedly threw a tantrum when the Navy told him he couldn’t fly a Rhino on his own and had to sit in the back seat...

Best you don't compare the shot of his jacket in the trailer with the one he wore in the original. Due (probably) to the involvement of Tencent as a producer, there have been two subtle changes to the flag symbols so that no-one gets butthurt.

Censorship is unnecessary if you have no scruples.

Tencent has a huge stake in the online multi-player shooter games played by millions around the world (Fortnite, PUBG, Ring of Elysium, etc.). I fully expect this movie to lend itself to the development of an online game played on PC and mobile in the same way, so being internationally friendly has a big impact on their bottom line. Enough to worry about minute details, apparently.

Coincidentally Heatblur just created an epic model of the F14 for a simulator called DCS.

Yup I'm a geek.

Soundtrack and Score were excellent in the first movie, with that and Tom not overacting and a fairly realistic plot this should get the green light, ghost rider.

Second, pilots of all abilities (fresh out of school on their first assignment or seasoned veterans, alike) are mixed in every squadron throughout the Air Force and Navy... it is absolutely plausible that a pilot "fresh" out of flight school would be involved in such events. We don't deploy soldiers, sailors, marines, or airmen only if they have a certain amount of time in their jobs. But again, that wasn't the case in the first movie, anyway.

Third, guys well into their 50s deploy into harms way every day. Fact. And many of them aren't in half as good of shape as Tom Cruise is in (did you not see him sprinting for, like, 3 miles in the last Mission Impossible movie??? )

The Navy flies mostly F-18 Hornets these days, as the F-14 was retired in the 2000s. The F22 is only used by the Air Force.

A Captain in the Navy is equivalent to a full Colonel (O-6) in the Army/Air Force/Marines. Yeah, Navy has to be different that way. Captains in the other branches are junior grade officers, equivalent to a Lieutenant in the Navy (which is what Maverick's rank was in the original.

Great info

Here is a link to a good video from the Fighter Pilots channel on Youtube, describing the trailer. I don’t know this pilot personally but have watched him for a while and he knows his stuff.
