New guy looking to buy his first rolex

Hi, I'm new here. Never owned a rolex, but looking to purchase my first.
I have been shopping mostly Ebay looking for a decent deal on a 2nd hand piece.

I have been consistently looking at rolex 16200's and 1500's, as they seem to be more my style thats in my price range.
Looking for a SS, Oyster stle link bracelet, with black dial with diamond markers possibly a diamond bezel too.

Any reason I should be looking at more "Modern" rolex's over the older pieces?
Any recommendations for a first time rolex buyer?

I would look here at the sellers, they have a lot of good inventory and easy to research their feedback.
As far as models go, it's up to you. I have a GMT 16760 which I like, you may not like it. I also like other 4 and 5 digit references. Look around, this forum is a wealth of information.

I ventured over to the for sale forums earlier today and I had a hard time with it. Since im not super familier with all the model names i had to click every one of them to see what they looked like and what the prices were.
Im looking to spend around $3-5.

What I would do is go to chrono24 and check out some of the models you like and see the prices of new and used.

THEN, once you settle on a specific watch you like, reach out to one of the Trusted Sellers on this forum and see what they can do. Or search on that particular ref number in our sale forum.

Thanks for the tip! Viewing chrono24 now!

You'll have a nice selection in that price range. I did a transaction on therealreal.com and it went great. They guarantee authenticity and the merchandise goes thru their hands first. They specialize in anything luxury. It's worth a look and there is a ton of stuff in your price range. I personally suggest you make sure you get a sapphire crystal. Getting an old acrylic and every day wear don't mix for me.

I use watchrecon.com its an online aggregator of various online sales forums. The issue is to be very careful to buy from a legit seller. There is a "whos who" section on this forum you can use to cross reference. Or you can find a watch/seller and post back here to ask if the watch/seller is legit. There are many scammers on the internet.

Aftermarket almost everything I would pass. Dial and bezel is fake and likely the band

You can browse eBay for photos of different watches to fine tune what exactly you're looking for, but you should probably stick to actually buying from a trusted seller to avoid the avalanche of fakes and pieced together watches out there.

My new Rolex arrived today. its a 16030 1983 model.
I know its not a purist watch, Its has aftermarket or refinished dial (Believe its aftermarket) and bezel
Has original oyster bracelet.
Wanted to see what you all thought of it and if I got a decent deal on it, what would you say its worth?

If I were you, as a newbie, I'd stay as far away from eBay as possible!

Search the Trusted Sellers here on TRF...you won't be sorry!

Get familiar, but I'm not sure what three bucks will get you.
