Identifying Wrist Watch
Hello all I know this gets asked here a lot but any chance some one might be able to provide some info on this watch. I don’t have it in hand so I can’t get any more details or pics. Hope to be able to get more info in a few days.
I have tried looking online for something close but anything close also has “Oyster” on it and this has only “Precision” and its at the 12 o’clock position not 6. Any info would be appreciated I believe it is probably early 60’s time frame. Thanks |

The dial appears to be repainted from that photo. Or I suppose it could be fake/aftermarket.

6494 is the reference number you need to find the watch in a search.
The dial has been redone. Watch looks very polished as well. |

Thank you for the responses.
I know the jeweler who has it quite well (wife works for him :) and I have no doubt it is not a fake. He does a lot of estate jewelry and he took this watch in several years ago and had it gone through and serviced. The wife found a invoice for servicing that specific watch from about 2 years ago and part of the invoice included "Redo Dial" so I assume that means it was repainted. Maybe at that time not all markings were put back on the dial? The 6494 from what I can find out one of the OysterDate line. From the 303945 I am guessing apparently from the late 50's I believe 1957 +/-. Manual wind version. Mike |

Thank you for the information.
I am quite sure the watch is not a fake. I know the jeweler quit well and my wife works for him He is very knowledgeable on watches especially Rolex. His main business is estate jewelry so he takes in a lot of estate pieces. This watch came in sometime back and from what I found out he did send out the dial to be “Redone” as it was in bad shape. So maybe at that time some of the information on the dial was actually already not visible so it was left off, just a thought. I am trying to see if he has pics of the watch before it was worked on. Once he got the dial back he sent it in for a servicing and thorough check. So it’s running like a top. From what I have found 6494 = ROLEX OYSTERDATE 303945 = 1957 +/- Mike |

If you are a buyer, be aware that the dial is garbage, and the only point in buying the watch would be as a project to find a correct replacement dial. I generally don't recommend projects like that unless the watch is dirt cheap and you're experienced enough to be able to recognize that a replacement dial is correct.

Also .... if this watch was recently serviced, why is the date wheel askew?
Hard pass on this watch, mainly because of the dial problems, as mentioned above. |

Actually I had been considering buying it but thanks to the responses and information. I think I will pass and keep an eye out for something else.
