Another satisfied Macbook Air (15') customer. It's primarily for browsing the web with light work duty. Can't think of a single complaint.

Perhaps I'm being a bit cheap, but the pro is twice the cost of the air, and honestly she doesn't scratch the surface of the old pro she had, power-wise.
Word processing, small presentations, photo storage and email/surfing. You don't need a new pro for that, if we are all honest with ourselves. But, I leave it to her. If she want's the pro, that is what she will have. Maybe I'll get her old pro operational (new HD) and continue to use it. It's fine other than not booting. |

I'm cheap too ... most all Apple products I've picked up at their refurbished area. Sometimes it takes a few days or week for what you are looking for to pop up, but you will save several hundred dollars. The warranty is exactly the same 1 year and swear to Zeus .. every product I've received over the years (several laptops, iPads, Apple TV) ... look and are packaged as if new!

One things for sure, don’t assume you need it brand new. Just make sure it’s in good condition and has an SSD of 256Gb or more
Believe it or not I still use A MacBook Air from 2011 and a MBP from late 2013... and an iMac from 2015 They are all mega old relatively speaking and if I was still a windows users I would have replaced my laptop at least 2 if not 3 times by now. Both laptops, despite their age are still as fast now as the day I bought them. No signs of damage, wear and no temporarily or intermittent issues. I work on them daily so they are in heavy use. I will probably get the ARM Mac next year however. The next Gen mbp. So buy used and you will get an excellent machine |

Will the ARM processors come out before the end of 2020?

It’s already released for developers in a MacMini form for testing apps. In the future, that’ll be a good beer bet at the geek bar, “when was the Apple ARM cpu released?” Tim Cook said that the first Mac for retail purchase will arrive by the end of 2020. Despite the current form in the MacMini, it looks like the 13” MBP will be orderable first for Holiday buying season. Followed by the MBA - but only Timmy knows since supply chain could still be disrupted by events beyond his control. I know the OP asked about laptops but I’ve used a MacMini on a large screen 4K using hdmi for a while. Nothing lighter than a magic keyboard & mouse on a simple lapboard.
