The 5205 is a very nice looking watch and practical (auto, date, legible).

The 5172 has a gorgeous movement, Patek's manual chronographs are something special in the watchmaking world and I find the 5172's case stunning.

I would go for the 5172 personally for the chronograph complication. But that's just me.

However, next to the 5205, I would consider a 5960 which is very similar. It has a Flyback chronograph, the AC, a power reserve, the 28-520 with vertical clutch and column wheel, etc... It seems a 5960P is around 55-60 KUSD on the secondary market.

Decisions decisions

I can’t help but think this stepped lug case suits the perpetual calendar 5320g with salmon dial more, for a touch more money.

I prefer the 5170 too, breguet numerals and a nicer (to me) smaller 39.4mm case.

Complete the trio with a 5205.

Thanks for sharing! The Patek range is so great for collectors. I need to get a manual chrono

I tried on a 5172G today. That is an incredible watch.

I like both of them a lot. I have a 5205 and will inevitably add the 72 eventually, actually almost did a few days ago but ended up going for another brand and complication instead. But it's high on the list still and just a matter of time at this point.

Picked up a 5205R-011 recently and the beauty is unparalleled in person. Something that doesn’t come across in pictures is the gradient effect from the middle to outer dial

Have a 5205 and I think it wears a bit small because of the stepped case.

I love and have been trying to buy at rrp a 5175 in opaline for a year.

I was in a similar situation and chose the 5205g blue dial. I can see myself adding a 5172 in the future but if I had to choose between the two, the 5205 is my preference. It’s more useful for me and I like the gradient blue dial with the skeletonized lugs. Just a gorgeous case that needs to be seen in person.
