Rolex newbie needs help - first - Datejust 6917 questions

Hello Rolexforums,

I need some advice please!

I just purchased a vintage (1978) Lady Datejust in solid 18k 26mm. Seller claimed it had been recently serviced. Took it to my local AD this morning and it didn’t take any time at all for them to hell me it was dry as a bone. Winds like it too. Original “alternate” leather strap mounted on backwards, aftermarket bezel otherwise everthing else looked ok

Here’s what I would like advice on:

1) any idea of what it’s worth? It only has a Rolex leather strap, original boxes and packaging, no original papers.

2) can it be serviced, who could do a proper service and how much? I don’t know if the movement in this watch is anything special by Rolex standards. It is the version where you cannot set the date independently of the time.

3) would a service event for this watch actually require spare parts? My AD said that is one of the problems with older Rolexes is you can’t get parts.

Thank you

EDIT: well this is where pictures would go but the software is interpreting IMG as links and I have to have 10 posts for that.

Welcome.

Rough idea :

Rolex Lady-Datejust
£4,714

Use an independent Rolex specialist be about $600 or so....

Usually no parts needed, but if so they are not eyewateringly expensive on the calibre / mvt it had fitted
