Submariner Service Recommendation? 2

Way back when I made a request for some place I could get my Red Sub serviced. I didn't want to revive an old thread, so here I am.

Things got hectic for various reasons and my plans to have it reconditioned and service got sidelined. Recently I ran across my Sub and decided it's long overdue to have it examined.

There was a request for me to post a pic so that'll have to get done soon. If I get an R&S done I'll definitely post a pic

As as a daily driver/EDW watch, it's had a tough life. I did make an inquiry about a Southern CA place where "Virginia" worked, but she had long retired, well earned no doubt. I don't know who does the Rolex repair or even remember the name of the shop.

Bob Ridely/watchmaker got solid recommendations and his site is still active. That makes him a consideration. He has an absolutely perfect and beautiful Red Sub in the marketing page (a little older than mine) so that makes him an even stronger consideration.

So basically I'm asking of Bob is still a go-to guy (or at least his shop) and possibly some additional recommendations closer the the left coast than VA.

I bought my Sub in 1971, IIRC. It's feet first with indices between 20,30,40, and 50 on the bezel. I mention this because some versions don't have those, just the numbers.

Though I'm not interested in selling it, some of the prices I've seen nearly stop my heart. One site had a 1976 Red Sub for $54.5K! with box and papers of course. My Red won't be worth nearly that much but that isn't really important to me.

I look forward to getting more information and at least having time to read here.

Giovanni for someone close to home or Bobs son Phillip Ridley would be another go to.

Type something like this into google:

site:rolexforums.com rolex vintage watchmaker

Or add a location ... anything you want. You will generally find the same handful of recommendations over and over again.

Philip Ridley did my MkII Red 1680 in 2019. Did a perfect job and followed my wishes explicitly. Highly recommend.

Great to see Giovanni get shouted out here so often. I've been going there since the place was owned by one Ludwig Bernekar (I think he used to work for Rolex). They've worked on my Tudor sub a couple of times, my ym once or twice and each time was great work. I no longer live in SF but still take my watches to him (Giovanni), doing a layover to drop off or pick up. I'm about to schedule a trip just to drop of my dd.

Can't explain it, but I prefer going there than the RSC's.
