PP vs Lange World Time
Looking at maybe picking up a world time movement and wondered what people’s thoughts were on PP (5110 and 5130) versus Lange’s model.

I'm hopelessly bias so it's Patek for me.

The Louis Cottier invented World Time is iconic Patek so it gets my vote.

Exceptional, the casual band really compliments the watch. Looking great brother.

I would go with Patek on the WT over the Lange model.

I like the crown guards on the 5110 and with the 10:00 pusher it wears bigger than its 37mm.

Yeah this is the best WT in my opinion and that includes the 5230p. Patek absolutely nailed the contrast of white dial and center guilloche. The case on a side profile is modern but elegant. If I’ve got this in White gold and absolutely love it. The case and size could not be any more perfect for my wrist. I do like it on gold also. Looks great in your picture. Thank you, it’s my favourite world time (except the minute repeater!) the size is perfect for me also and the 240 movement is the icing on the cake. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Same here, fully biased:
935E6D17-1625-4465-B126-EBDAED955B97.jpeg Plus, the Lange 1 WT is, in my opinion, somewhat illogical as the date is linked to the home time, not the local time. |

I prefer the PPs...much better designed on the dial side.
One point of consideration is that the Lange has a daylight savings time indicator tied to the city indicated. The PPs of course have no daylight savings time indicator, so are accurate for only ~1/2 the year. PP could have (should have IMO) solved this perhaps with a simple indicator a la the JLC Geophysic Universal Time. |

That's an interesting question. I don't know if you're familiar with PP but their WT have a special spirit in the watch world.
They were here long ago, providing a legitimacy and historical heritage (first PP wristwatch reference 515 in 1937 for the modern era). They have a limited size, the monopusher (easy) setting, they are reliable, etc... The 5110 is very cute, the R is my favorite. However, though I don't know about the Lange 1 Time Zone in detail technically, I held the rose gold slate dial. As a former owner of a 1815R, the front finishing (smoothness of all dial parts, silver dial sandblasting) and the movement's finishing and decoration are really top notch and bring a little something I find personally the Patek doesn't as much. Of course, if you prefer a lighter movement decoration (I got fed up with the blue screws) the 240 might look more appealing to you. I would vote Patek because this is more "my thing" as I always thought I could wear them like a Calatrava which is to say like an elegant smaller watch. But having a Lange in the hands brings something very valuable to the owner. The size is also a major factor to consider (37 or 39.5 vs 41.9mm) as well as, for some people, the manual (Lange) vs auto issue. |

PP for me and I am waiting to get one. I own ALS Time Zone it is stunning but technically it is not World Timer so they call it Time Zone. PP is for sure.

I love ALS. Fanboy through and through. But the Patek takes this one.

No WT piece will be perfect if for no other reason (as you say) than the different daylight savings time start dates. In the case of PP, buyers are surely buying based largely on the romance of a world time piece than on direct functionality (hence my own choice favoring the PP). |

I will say one thing about the ALS TZ. On the secondary market, it's worlds less expensive than the Patek. It's a generally true statement model for model I know, but still, if $30k difference used is a factor, then the ALS works fine for me.

It’s really a dual time not a world timer so Lange isn’t really apples for apples
That said I love both but I do find the PP very hard to read |

I looked very hard at both. Ultimately could not get past the manual wind on the ALS. Ended up with the 5230G and love it, particularly as a second or third watch. It is one of the “signature” PP complications to me given the history.

A lot more function with the Lange... prob more a dual time than world time. PP is automatic, though. Lange is manual. So tough to compare.
I think the one issue w WT is timezones will mess you up from time to time. |
