Vintage subs- Fix old polish or leave as is

I’m guessing a few of us have seen this and I’m curious as to the thoughts here. If you have a vintage sub that was polished incorrectly in the past would you leave it as is or have it correctly restored and polished?

IMO, it's not possible to answer such a generic question. It depends how bad the case is. As much as I appreciate originality, there is a point beyond which I will get more enjoyment from a properly refinished case. And of course, everyone's threshold is different. You would have to post photos for us to judge your watch, but be prepared to get diverse opinions and to make your own decision.

It was more of a generic question for the question but I understand where you are coming from. Nothing seems more divisive than to polish it or not. I use my watch daily and it has a solid amount of scuffs and scraps. I’m not a collector worried about a single watch but was pretty interested in the discussion. Often it seems the discussion is done from the extreme point of don’t polish as the watch is vintage and should hold its character- and I agree.. But what I have noticed is many vintage watches that are legit were cared for, probably received polishing at some point. If an independent did a poor job would one consider it worth while to bring it back into spec or leave it as is. I mean after all even a incorrect polish is part of the watches vintage history.

Always curious to read everyone’s opinion.

Dan has it answered for you but if the damage is done I am for improving it. I am also for transparency in what's been done if you ever sell. Post some pics and let us see :)

I have posted twice to this thread is there a reason they aren’t being submitted? Well that is odd my long post said it needed moderator support to post, then never posted. This one posted right away.

Thanks for all the posts folks!

If your Sub has been polished as most have been and you are bothered when you see unpolished examples or crisp refinished cases you will end up polishing it sooner or later. Go for it.

No harm in correcting earlier mistakes

If its a smidge molested on the polishing, molesting it a bit more doesn't seem a good idea to me personally.
