5035 vs Lange-matik Big Date

Hello Everyone,

I always cringe at the "this vs that" threads' because lets be honest, it all comes down to personal taste.

That being said, I do feel like comparing to fairly similar watches and getting the general opinion.

The 5035 seems like a phenomenal value (preowned), and looks gorgeous, and it's a patek.

The Langematik big-date also looks gorgeous, costs the same, and way less complicated (although the big-date complication is nice).

So I'm just curious as to the opinion of the peanut gallery.

Thanks!

Both are top notch but all else equal I'd definitely go patek for the calendar feature

As neither would fit my wrist, then it’s based entirely upon looks – the L&S walks it.
Even their own AC wipes the floor with that Patek, since for the same size of watch it’s cleaner looking and far more legible, as well as manages to fit in a moonphase feature.

If the price is similar, I'd rather have the Patek on my wrist.

I'm not familiar w that ALS model, I could be swayed if it has a manual movement?

My advice is always try on the watches on the wrist whenever possible as they may look quite different in person as compared to online photos (especially when you are spending $20K+ USD on a watch).

Having said that, this year marks Patek Philippe's 20 year anniversary of the Annual Calendar and reference 5035 is the one they introduced back in 1996. I know everyone is talking about the Nautilus 40 year anniversary, but the Annual Calendar is a very respected complication within the watch industry.

I have a lot of respect for ALS watches. They are at the pinnacle of German watch manufacturing and the watch above is an excellent example of a modern dress watch. However no one will mistake a ALS watch for a Patek Philippe as ALS follows more of a Bauhaus design.

There will be fans of both watches. Depending on when the 5035 was manufactured and how it was worn, you may need to consider servicing cost if the watch hasn't been serviced recently.

I vote for the 5035. But then this is a Patek sub-forum!

I like both brands and in some comparisons I would select the ALS over PAtek but in this specific comparison I would take the Patek. I like the calendar functions and as someone already stated-- I think this particular ALS is a bit boring in its appearance.

Look for a pre-loved Langematik Perpetual

A beautiful piece that trumps the AC of the Patek.

Annual calendar watches are very useful. If I was looking for a pilot style watch, the ALS fits the bill otherwise i'ld go Patek.

Check them on your wrist the 5035 is 'small' and current fashion is larger. Patek prices for smaller pieces are falling so bargain for extra good deals.

Used to own a 5035 and really liked it. Great watch and daily wearer. I'd highly recommen it! Not a fan of that particular Lange but rest assured it is top notch.

I have a platinum Datograph as my Lange....not really relevant...not sure why I mentioned that actually...

The 5035 can be had for the cost of a new Calatrava. I love mine and would recommend it to anyone. The history alone is worth it.

Presenting the Patek Phillipe 5035J. Annual calendar complications? Check. Deployant clasp? Check. Average cost? Only about $19.5k... less than a Calatrava The best value in all of Patek world.

5035 definitely best value in the Patek world that you can buy pre-owned.
