Incoming! Explorer II Black Dial!
After patiently waiting for the new Basel releases yesterday, I was happy the Explorer II was not being discontinued but when I saw the 116710LN was, I thought that maybe some buyers might shift to the Explorer II and make it harder to find even though historically it hasn't been a sought-after reference.
Thanks to a member here, I knew a local AD in LA had the Explorer II. I slept on it and decided to pick it up this morning. I tried the polar and black dial. As much as I like the polar in pictures I've seen here, the black dial really sang to me. I really like the readability, the bigger dial, brushed bracelet, etc. The AD also gave a small discount off MSRP and no tax! |

Congratulations!!!! I had the same thing happen to me. I was all set to get the polar from all the pictures I had seen. When I put them both on it was clear the black dial was the winner by a long shot. Beautiful watch!!!! Enjoy!!!

Congrats again Dave! Looks fantastic. The polar was the first Rolex that hooked me on Rolex as a brand. I lusted after it for a year, then when it was time to buy I grabbed the black. I do hope to add the polar at some point too.
Interestingly I had the Explorer II and the LN GMT recently and I pretty quickly flipped the LN because the Explorer II wouldn't give up any wrist time. |

Great reference. Congrats! Love the larger dial with a splash of orange. Very subtle Rolex - no bling, and sits nicely on the wrist. Super legible with the larger hands and 42mm size.

Well done. Nice purchase. Love mine. A very handsome watch and easily the most ledgible dial in the entire Rolex line up....although the new 42mm yachtmaster rannounced last week could be just as good.
Enjoy in good health. |

Ooooph, such a crude face compared to the older 1655 EII. Anyway, still a handsome watch.
