However, and I realise this is a personal mental issue, I’m not sure I would wear the Lange. I would baby it. I wouldn’t wear it if there was any prospect of rain (here that means all the time). I would worry about dinging the case. I would cringe when my daughter, as is her want, paws at my wrist giggling “daddy’s watch!”

So, given the choice, despite the fact the Lange is a work of art, I would probably take the Daytona. The compensation for me would be that though it isn’t a Lange, it is the best Daytona. And I’d wear it all the time.
Well, I guess with all type of watches we need to be extra careful right? But with ALS level, might need to double the care for sure. I'm right handed and wear my watch on my right hand as well. This made me not too aware of the watch I'm wearing since everything just like auto. Maybe need to wear the ALS on the left hand instead?

On another note, talked to the seller, seems that the original owner is at Basel currently :) So transaction might be delayed until early next month.

I have a Lange and a Rolex; the Lange is on a different level of artisanship, but it is not a workhorse. It feels delicate; it is delicate, in a way that no Rolex is.

If you will baby your watch, get the Lange. If you won’t, get the Daytona.

I think as others have said, this comes down to which suits your lifestyle best. The Lange is a work of art and truly a sight to behold. Their movement finishing is second to none IMO. If added to the rotation of a larger collection and only worn during “predictably safe” moments, I’d get the ALS hands down. The Rolex on the other hand is much more rugged and despite being gold, is manageable as a daily wearer. So I guess it comes down to whether you want a work of art that must be treated as such or one of the best looking modern Daytonas that can be worn just about anytime, anywhere.

[edit]: just saw your last post. I’d get the ALS unless you’ve really had your heart set on that Daytona.

Another consideration is just the price for the 2nd hand Lange is really good, and that the Daytona have the premium price tag. With a bit of extra I can get my hand on good condition Lange is quite an opportunity imo

Lange definitely is classier, but the Daytona can pretty much be worn anytime.

Daytona WG would be my choice.

Man, I have the 116519LN and I would take the Lange in a heartbeat!

I don't believe that the prices are the same... tell me if you pass on the Lange because I'd snap it up!

ALS, no question. Date shouldn't really matter to be honest. If my father were to ever, say, pass down a car to me 20 years from now, I'd take a 2018 Ferrari over a 2019 BMW...

Something to consider: If you scratch or ding your Lange, the company can always restore the case to 100% factory-fresh condition whenever you next send it in for servicing. They'll laser-fill any missing metal and then refinish the case -- the bevels, etc. They do this all the time (though I think a Lange looks more "honest" when it's personalized with the owner's signs of wear -- some scratches, dings, etc. -- but I know I'm in the minority when it comest to that). Also, Langes are made for daily use and are not meant to be babied. The croc strap is the most delicate part.

Depends on what you’re looking for. WG Daytona is more versatile with different attire and less scratch prone due to the ceramic bezel. Lange for the finishing and movement.

Your daughter receives a sub and son receives a 1815...

Having lange 1815 chrono, my next list is gold Daytona. Waterproof chronos are very convenient. As you mentioned, buying a watch to pass on, i think you should buy the birth year model... its going taunt you after that it isn’t.

in this case, between these two watches, it's the lange by miles (and miles, and miles...)

seriously, by so many miles.

(and I love that daytona).

ALS, and it wouldn’t be a close decision.

In today's market, you could probably flip your steel Daytona and offset much of the cost of the gold/OF. Both is always a good answer.

I am clearly in the minority but I much prefer the look of the Daytona. The Lange is beautiful but a bit too formal looking for me. However the movement is an amazing looking thing.

Seeing as you already have the Daytona C though the Lange would work better in your collection. Plus I imagine they’re easier to obtain?

i agree its head and shoulders above, no question about that. I wouldn't wear the 1815 chrono though so i wouldn't buy it. I would wear the bigger Dato in a heartbeat
