If I don't have that gut wrenching feeling when I instantly see a watch I don't buy it, but when I do have that feeling, to me, its a keeper.

I was beginning to feel very lonely until I read this. I wish that every watch I ever bought was a keeper but I'm not that smart and I keep learning how little I know. I still have a few Rolexes but have traded or sold others to fund more expensive (less durable) watches that I like more. I hope I never see another watch that I have to own but that's futile thinking.
However, if I were offered a watch that I didn't want to keep but I could absolutely make money reselling it, I would buy it.

Me. If my kids want to sell my watches after I die, so be it. I don't expect they will, though.

i purchased mine for the repeat utiles out of them. Looking back, yes i should have invested in rolexes instead of the stock market 8 years ago. I would have made a better ROI in rolexes if i decided to flip them than stock market.

I have eight Rolex watches, the first one purchased in the “70s” ; still have them all. The only watch I ever traded in was a Patek that I upgraded to get an 18kt bracelet instead of a strap.

I have bought every watch to wear and keep but sometimes a new watch makes an older purchase redundant or less desirable.

Current Rolex marketing strategy has worked. If every watch was available and at the dealer I would find my favorite, buy it and never go back to the store. Instead it has become the thrill of the hunt. Every time I go in I see something new and a couple times I have fallen in love with the unexpected.

I have 4 Rolex watches and a Tudor. The first one I acquired in 1985. The last one this year. I have never sold a watch. I don't think I ever will unless the money would be needed for survival, so with some luck from above, I will hopefully never be in that position. But I certainly did not buy any of these watches thinking that they were some kind of an "investment" that I planned to cash in at some point in the future.

I did inherit a 50 year old Rolex when I turned 50. I pinch my self everyday. Your family will enjoy that legacy as we enjoy the journey

I'm about 90% positive if a watch is a keeper or not BEFORE I buy. If I've been obsessing, hunting, searching, dreaming about it for at least a year... it'll end up being a lifer in the collection. However, if I purchased on a whim, it's got a 50/50 shot.

The exception was my GO PanoLunar. Bought it sight-unseen, and fell in love with it. There's not much else that would fill it's role for me.

Never bought with the intention of selling. But I sold some that I tired of to buy a new one.

I sold an old air king to finance a DJ, and I sold a 16710 that I bought in '07, got 2.5 times what I paid for it, and bought a new Bluesy as I fell out of love and couldn't stand the hollow link bracelets any more and soda can clasp.

First one, a Datejust II 41. Sold after 2 months.
Second one, Batman. Sold after 1 year.
Third one, Submariner. Don’t know how long will I keep it.

No safe queens and no flippers here. I currently only own one and as with the other two I previously owned, it's my everyday watch.

Note: I did purchase a 16613 from a friend who needed $$$, but this was done as a favor. I sold the watch a few weeks later, 100% of the difference was given to my friend. No profit for me. If anything I lost a few bucks on shipping.

Nah. The effort to buy and sell is not worth it for a little premium unless you have a ton of rare pieces at msrp.

I’ll stick to trading stocks and options for the cheap thrills and occasional windfalls.

At a couple of Seikos, I’ve kept every watch I’ve ever bought, although later this year I may let a few go, but I doubt they will be any of the Rolex I own, and I’ve got a few that have gone truly stratospheric with what they are worth now compared to what I bought them for.

Rolex are like Bitcoin. No one actually uses them; we just buy, sell and speculate. Who wears a watch these days?

Think chrono24 and eBay makes it look like nobody would dare wear it.

Mine is a daily wear.
