What was the last year where you can walk into AD and see a variety of SS in cases?
I’ve recently gotten into the watch game and am curious was there ever a time you walked into an AD and found a Hulk or Sub LN and variety of GMT steel watches in cases ready for purchase? If so when was this?

2017 July, John Bull in Nassau Bahamas. Had a 116613 lb, a date sub, a no date sub, and a Milgaus...that being said, they were there again 4 days later. Yikes, times have changed. Back then I had a 16613 already and an explorer 2....and a crabby wife ;)

This post shows how short the bubble has been. It's not very long at all really. Like everything in life, those days will returm. I just hope we are all still alive in 2050

Yea for me it was early 2018. One day I walked into my AD, zero supply on specialty models.

I still remember when I was in Bangkok on 2016 and a dealer at the airport had black SS daytona in stock. Should have picked it up there and then.

Mid 2016 to early 2017.
Glad I got my new Sub in 2016 from a trusted seller for 20% off. I also remember LVC going for 7800 Wow how the times have changed. |

It came out of nowhere in 2017 in my area...You never saw really hot models on display such as Ceramic Daytonas, but I did see 2-3 LN subs/GMTs etc. Now, it's only Datejusts, and lots of PM watches. Seems that solid gold Daytonas/Sky-Dwellers/DDs sit for a couple days - maybe finding somebody with $40k+ to drop isn't easy. Lol.

As recently as 2017 the local AD had a GMT LN in the external display case, and a lot of sports models in store.
In 2014 white dial SS Daytona in stock at an AD, that was pretty cool |

As far as April 2018, I saw 2x Milguass, a GMT LN, Sub ND and Date versions (of which I bought the ND on the spot), SST YM2, and an Air King in the same AD case.

Hulks were in the case at most SoCal AD’s until about July 2017.

Mid to late 2016 I’d say in the Uk. Could visit a big chain AD in the weekend and see a load of SS models , Hulk, Subs, GMTs all readily available in the Window.

July 2017...when I got my BLNR with a 7% discount. Less than a year prior to that, I had the same discount on my hulk.
This scaricity nonsense will change, and Rolex will supply the market with more products soon. I’m not saying they will flood the market, but I’m sure this imbalance will right itself. |

2013.
Was on the fence about the BLNR which I only saw in pictures. Walked into the local boutique and two were sitting in the case. Fell in love but wasn't quite sure of the purchase. This was going to be my first rolex. Asked the salesman if I could it on hold for 24 hours. He agreed. Stopped by the next day and picked it up. This scenario would NEVER happen these days |

2015 for a year with everything from hulk to batman to sub date. 2016 started to dwindle with a decrease in sub date and smaller discount. 2017 it was a miracle if you could find a deepblack on display. 2018 bye bye. 2019...same as 2018.

I have been out of the Rolex loop for many years because of other issues that have demanded my full attention. I am now in the position to devote more time to my Rolex collection and have been spending time checking the marketplace and AD's to get a feel for their products. What I have found truly astounds me. I feel like a foreigner in a new country. First of all, the pricing has gone insane - I can hardly beleive the price increases for new and used Rolexes. I am very, very glad I purchased my Pepsi, Hulk, Bluesy and other models years ago after seeing how much the prices have increased - in some cases over 3X what I paid.
I have also noticed how the market has tightened - in the last AD's I visited there were no SS subs or Daytona's to be seen - only PM Datejusts. "Can't guarantee a date for supplying any SS Sub or Daytona - we are at the mercy of Rolex" the AD's say. HOW THE MARKET HAS CHANGED IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS!! J. Alan |
