2021 is widely ruomered to be the year of the calatravas
my guess is there might be steel options with soprty twist similar to the 6007 and 5212

I am in the mkt. for a 5196j. I like everything about the watch but would love a display case back. Should I hold off if there are rumors of a new movement?

I’m personally hoping for a modern interpretation of the 5196. Upsize to 39mm, transparent case back with power reserve in the rear. Please please PP, make this dream a reality!

I am a big fan of the Amagnetic serie like the 2509 or 3417.
But actually, my dream watch would be the child of a Nautilus and a Calatrava: a great integrated bracelet (with a Glidelock equivalent), classic sporty design Non-Genta (a la-VC-overseas), 70h power reserve. |

They have to release a new line of calatravas. There is literally nothing in the line up. I’m really excited to see what comes out. My perfect calatrava:
- 39mm - manual - sub-seconds - exhibition caseback with power reserve indicator in the back |

They'd have to make it deeper to fit a display back and I think it would ruin the feel of it. The 5196 is amazingly slim and delicate, to make it thicker would be a crime. |

An article from the official Patek magazine said a new manual wind movement was being developed to be produced in the new facility as a way to attract younger buyers. The tricky thing is a cannot imagine a $20,000 patek at this point. It will be interesting to see how they juggle the interest in steel traditional watches without cannibalizing gold pieces.
To be fair they could just charge $25K for a steel manual wind and if it were executed even halfway decently they would likely sell very well. They could also sell a "youthful" 25K PM watch, but it's going to be slightly incongruent. |

This is especially true in the Bay Area. A $100k youthful PM Calatrava may work here. |

Hoping for something reminiscent of the 5650A but 39-40mm. Closer to the 565 proportions.

A new Calatrava has been released. Calatrava "Clous de Paris" with a hobnail bezel, and a new manual-wound movement (Caliber 30-255 PS) with 65 hours of power reserve. It comes in rose gold with an opaline dial (6119R), or white gold with a black dial (6119G).

Hi guys, my first post here. Strapped on both 6119G and 5196R in the boutique earlier today, I still feel that 5196R's simpler dial is more pleasing visually and comfortable on the wrist. The only downside would be the lack of open case back. I don't find the smaller case on the 5196R to be an issue here on my 17cm wrist as it wears larger than 37mm. Here's the comparison shot.

Agreed. The 5196R is the clear winner to my eyes. I don't prefer hobnail bezels, and the 6119s are otherwise too dressy, whereas the 5196s are more easily dressed up and down.

i had a chance to try 6119g and is waiting for it. actually the design of hobnail bezel is really different from the previous generation thanks to the lugs. when I wear it outside under natural light, the 6119g stays really low key, unlike 6119r.
