5167R Premium

Hey guys,

Would you consider paying a premium on the 5167R on the grey market? I was offered a 2021 brand new version for $70k USD. Pretty ridiculous and higher than market value but with the way the markets going right now, I don't see these going down.

I think you can get it by paying something less, not much less, but less.

No, that is ridiculous. 1) watch prices don’t always go up, don’t bank on that (just remember how easily you could get many of these watches just a few years ago) and 2) I would be patient with these models. With all the hype people start thinking they need these watches too. Just make sure you actually love the watch before pulling the trigger.

It depends on how bad you want the watch and how that amount impacts you. If money is not an issue why would you not get the watch you want? Go for it.

Out of the ‘’hot’’ aquanauts and nautiluses the 5167R trades at one of the lowest premiums. In the UK, 31500gbp vs 45000ish on the secondary market. Whereas many are 100%+.

It’s also one of the nicest (in my opinion). The rose gold sports models that are large (5164R or the 5980R on strap) or on all-RG bracelets (5711R and 5980R) are perhaps a bit too much and can come across as bling-y but somehow the 5167R manages to straddle the sweet spot by virtue of being on a strap and its more modest size.

Value is very relative but given these two factors, if you are going to pay a premium then the 5167R is probably the best possible option.

Not commenting on price but I think you need a darker complexion for the 5167R to look good. I have seen it on a blonde guy with pale skin and freckles and that didn't work well IMO.

Well, do your homework and you will find your answer... If paying a premium is worth it......??

Hint Hint... Just look at the trend history of people say they would not pay a premium on those hottest timepieces such as..... SS Daytona, SS Dweller Blue dial, Pepsi, Hulk, Nautilus, Aquanaut, etc......

70K is pretty high for the 5167r but I guess this is where the market is right now. The SS version is in the 40s so this will cause the 5167r to go up also. Agree with others, only you can determine if this is a good price. If you really love it and have the funds then get it; it will probably cost more if buying from an AD.

No. Grey market pricing is ludicrous across the board...... Not just for Patek but Rolex as well.

Only under 2 conditions.
1. $70k isn't a big deal to me.
2. I don't care to own any other Patek's.

Since I don't have $70k to drop and I'd also like to get other Patek watches if I had money, the answer would be no.

I wouildn't do that,
the rose gold is not as sought after as the steel and therefore have a relatively shorter waiting time with your AD. i am sure if you approach your AD and show interest in rose gold aquanaut they will allocate one for you.
just don't be greedy and start by asking for a nautilus.
go there and tell them what you want and you might get it

If you are contemplating a gold Patek watch at that price range, I would consider the usual AC/PC watches. Way better use of the funds imo.

It’s only better if you actually like or want a gold AC/PC watch in a totally different style to what you have chosen, complications are not for everyone. My advice is get what makes YOU happy and don’t settle, you will only regret it and it will cost you more in the long run.

That is what they sell for in the secondary market so unless you have a connection at an AD, yes, I would pay that. Everyone here knows that if you're not willing to buy grey market you're never going to own this watch. It's ridiculous to feign horror at the price and pretend that everyone who buys grey is a lunatic.

5167R is a beautiful watch, according to my AD that is the least sought after Aquanaut.

A good customer can get a 5167A within 6-12 months and it is not impossible for a customer with an average relationship to get a 5167R. May be 1-2 years as not many people want it.

When did you get your 5167a and how long did you wait if you don’t mind sharing, it may give a small insight into the current UK market.

Travel back in time and file a few patents... money will never be a problem.

It’s a great great watch and underrated IMO. The current market is a bit skewed because of the ‘steel sport watch pandemic and then gold’s gotta be worth more hasn’t it’ world but I think if you look harder you can get one at a better deal than that though.

Wear it, love it

lol never :) but I'd buy a 5172G for that price on the grey market ... 70k is just stupid.
