SD 1665 MK2 Rail Dial - right serial ?

Hello,
Searching for a SD 1665 MK2 Rail Dial, I found a model with a lovely insert MK III “Ghost” from 1978.
A renowned expert certifies that the case, dial, insert, hands and bracelet are original.
However I am surprised with the serial number : 5.03XXX.
I was expecting 5.7 - 6.2.
Any issue with this serial number ?

Best regards,
gilel

Yes, I'd have a problem with a 5.0 million serial number on an MKII "Rail Dial" 1665.

As you say, the accepted range is 5.7-6.2 million, but that is approximate, so you might find some a little lower or a littler higher. A 1665 MK2 that is a 5.0 million is too far out of the range, IMHO. And the problem is, even if the dial IS original to the watch, all research and lists online work against you. Such is the craziness of the vintage Rolex world.

Your best bet would be to try to find a couple other examples of MK2s in the 5.0 million range to try to support your case. My guess is that they're probably not out there.

Can you post a photo of the watch and verify they really mean 5.03?

Hi all,
Attached a photo of the watch.
Yes, 5.03xxx is a part of the full serial number given by the expert (well known expert here in Paris-France).
