The Sub would be my choice. It is more durable as a daily, and IMO looks better.

AP is more versitile. You can dress it up or wear it very casually in a way you cannot do with the Sub.
The Sub is really a casual tool watch...though I’ll likely wear mine to the office today :-). But part of the reason im going to wear it is that my APs have been getting a predominant share of wrist time. As a one and only, you would need to accept scratches - but it’s a steel watch and that’s life...and not worth worrying about (IMHO) Good luck with your choice. |

As a daily wearer to me, Sub beats AP by a mile. While the bracelet and case of the AP are far better appearing and finished than Rolex, no question there, the 50mm WR of the AP coupled with the AP service cost of service, as a one watch collection Rolex is the way to go.

I have a 15400 and a 114060, and I love them both. There are arguments to be made either way.
The Sub has far more water resistance, and is more scratch resistant with the ceramic bezel and brushed bracelet. But the AP is just on another level. Design, movement, fit and finish, and bracelet - all superior on the 15400. I’ve heard some use the word “iconic” to describe the Sub (which it is!), but the Royal Oak is as iconic as it gets for me. No model means for a brand than the RO does for AP. Best case scenario, keep both! |

And that watch is probably running 15+ a day right now :) speaking from experience. ROO might fare better than RO, 15400 is no longer a sports watch, it's a beautifully crafted HH which i would not wear in any sports event or swimming with.

Sub without question, for all the reasons already mentioned.
Plus, I think the AP is bug ugly

I love my RO. It’s got everything and I’ll never get rid of it. You should also consider a small replacement factor, in the short run the AP will be much more difficult to obtain than a sub if you were to change your mind or still want both.

From what I have heard , so anecdotal only I am afraid, AP are quite expensive to service and also not as tough as Rolex.
I would always go with the tougher option ie ROLEX unless I was rich then I would wear an AP or Patek as well. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk |

i just voted AP. I own many Rolex and AP but the Royal Oak is to keep if you want to own only one watch in your collection.
and perhaps you can get the Seiko Diver as daily beater after that. :) cheers

I'm lucky enough to have both but if ONLY ONE, the Sub would win hands down. The AP is a lovely dress-sports watch but the bezel and bracelet are scratch magnets and I don't wear it for any sports/leisure activities while the Sub (or any SS sports Rolex) is the only choice!

Ap hands down, no debate.
Rolex ain’t in the hautology top 3, no way, no how. As much as ppl poop on the ap roo it’s a darn nice watch. Darn tootin. I promise there’s truly no debate here as the question is phrased. AP. No question. No hesitations |

Well I have a smurf and a AP 26331St. I’d keep the AP if I had to choose.

The Sub
The Sub is a do anything, anywhere, anytime kind of a watch and I really find no place for an AP. They do nothing for me and as an Engineer the non-functional screws on the bezel drive me crazy; decorative embellishments. The Sub is all business and no nonsense.
