Rolex 16710

Hi Folks,

After looking for almost 5 months for the perfect 16710 I have come across the following watch... It's a 2002 model and comes with box and papers, I have had it offered to me for £6895.

I intend to change the bezel for a Blue & Red (pepsi bezel) I've called my local AD who says they are unable to change the Bezel or ask Rolex to change the bezel to another colour/variant... Is this true?

This got me thinking that when the watch was purchased did the hand tag have 16710LN on it? And if so does that mean I can't change the bezel...? Will the papers also have 16710LN on it?

Rolex 16710

Guess it just depends on your relationship with your AD. When I purchased my 16710 it came w/ a coke insert. I asked my AD if he could get me a pepsi and a black insert. He called his watchmaker and his watchmaker ordered it for me. He charged me $70 for each insert.

I got my other inserts from a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account. Not a big deal. Was around 30$ each.

Alternately you can quite easily remove the black insert give the watch to the AD and ask them to put in a Pepsi or Coke as a workaround.

I'm presuming with a price of £6,895, you are in the UK?
Looks like a nice 16710 with Solid End Links and lugholes. Rolex UK will change an insert for another colour but it may be on an exchange basis. AD's will vary in their willingness to help, the one you have tried seems less than helpful. Your best bet if you are able, is to go in person to either St James HQ or the RSC at West Malling. I had my coke swapped to a pepsi when serviced, I was told that it would be on an exchange basis but when I collected the watch they let me keep both inserts.........good luck and let us know how you get on

That’s a good price. I’m sure Rolex would change the bezel insert at St James.

In the past I have purchased bezels here on the forum, and then changed them myself after watching a couple of Youtube videos. I am not at all handy and yet I sucessfully changed a Coke to a Pepsi and back without causing any damage.

I posted mine to RSC in London. They changed my coke for a Pepsi and returned the coke for £55.00 inc. postage.

The black is worth the least because Rolex will not change the bezel on it. Only Coke to Pepsi or Pepsi to Coke.

To be honest, no idea whether that’s right or not. Just saw it on TRF somewhere while on my quest for a GMT.

I did think it explained the price differential between black and other inserts, but no idea really.

Definitely not correct. Rolex doesn't practise this based on bezel colours. Someone spread the wrong info on the forum somewhere.

And from what I see, Black is going as much similar price for Pepsi/Coke.

This made a question pop up to me. I have been browsing for a Pepsi. How can you tell if it was and original Pepsi and not a black or coke someone has changed?

Same experience at St James. Kept my Pepsi insert as well after they installed a black/ burgundy, which I wanted for my GMT to celebrate my visit to the UK.

I’ve gone to an RSC with a 16710 with no bezel. They allowed me to choose which colour I wanted and it cost me $100CAD right from the source

My 16710 pepsi is currently at RSC for a service and a bezel swap to coke. They said likely the red/blue would be retuned as it is in good condition assuming nothing goes wrong during the change. I thought that would be enough but am already thinking of sourcing an LN for the 6 in 1 combo.

You can't book, it's a case of turn up and wait. It's best to avoid 12noon to 2pm if possible, glad to see from other posts that St James staff are still as helpful as previously

I just wonder if you are looking for a perfect watch, should the paper be included?

It is better to find one 16710 with pepsi insert which also indicated in the paper for a all-correct complete set.

I just phoned them and arranged the work then posted it in. When the work was completed they phoned me to take payment by card. They then returned it to me.

That is an excellent price, that’s got to be the best in the UK for B&P and in that good condition in that year. Market rate is £7500 and up these days in london, more for Pepsi but as noted you can change it easily. Jump on that one ASAP !!!

I had my 16700 with a pepsi bexel changed to an all black at th RSC in london 15 years ago.
They would only fit what you could originally buy the watch with.
It cost £29 fitted and i kept the origional faded pepsi dial

every AD is going to do what they want ... I had AD declining me the exchange, others wanted to keep the orignial and others are just customer oriented and understand collectors ... I was in Paris and visited 5 AD, 3 of them were nice enough to sell me inserts
