It would pain me to get rid of one if I owned both. However, if selling one was not an option, I would keep the Sub. Better daily watch that can be dressed up or down. The RO is really more of a dress watch only.

AP RO vs Rolex sub is like comparing a Porsche 911 with a BMW 3 series. Both are classic but in very different league. I keep 911!

Different leagues, altogether. Daily wearer? Can’t beat the SubC. I’d buy a Shinola and keep the AP though. Do your best to keep both...

LOL... Had a RO, would never keep it as an only watch. A sports watch that's not that sporty. Yes, it is beautiful and better crafted than the sub, but it is technically inferior and way less durable and unstable in time keeping compared to the sub.
Try wearing it to a golf course and report back after 18 holes. |

Not saying which one is better but as you asked which one for an only watch I say the SubC would a better choice for an everyday piece. If l had to have a one only It would be my Gmtll

I agree. I also have both and as an only watch the Sub would be by far the better choice.

I can't believe this poll is even close! AP is in a totally different league than Rolex from a brand standpoint. Granted, the Sub is a nice watch, but the RO is iconic, heads and shoulders above it.

Really depends on your day to day. I could easily understand an argument for either.
If it was me, I would go with the AP. Firstly out of sole preference. Secondly because I have more confidence in having the ability to easily add another Sub to the collection down the road if the itch becomes unbearable. |

this - been there done it, and don't forget if you are hanging on to the AP you are going to pay the piper when it's time for service or a problem. Don't get me wrong they are beautiful pieces and I've owned half a dozen, but it's a different beast altogether

Lifestyle? You know - frequent trips to the dry cleaner and returning video tapes; ending a long day at the office with a dinner at Dorsia. I think the AP can handle that :-P I’ll admit, I did not consider frequency or cost of servicing the watch (especially if it becomes a true daily). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't think you can beat how an AP feels on the wrist...
With that being said... Why not keep both? |

If the "engine" AP3120 was in 911, Porsche would have had a different reputation. With all due respect to the AP, Rolex 3135 in a better league than the AP3120. Not surprisingly, AP3120 replaced by AP4302.

Not fond of the AP designs. I guess that means I'd go for the Sub!!! Are we discussing the Date or the Sub?

Only watch...
The AP is a better finished watch, a pretty little thing. But it doesn't compare to the venerable Submariner in handling all that life throws at it. From beaches, to weddings, diving under water or from the sky and it is a much more reliable and durable time keeper that handles wear tear very nicely, put scratches on the AP's bezel and see it feels. For the way I live it could only be the Submariner as an "only". Very tough position to be in, both would be best. |

Adding to a growing collection I'd chose the AP, as an only watch Submariner every day. |

As it was already said, it depends on your lifestyle and habits, work enviroment, daily activities etc.
In my case I'd keep Sub as a robust, daily watch.

Sub is a classic and the AP is out dated.
Easy choice

Very tough between the RO and LVc for me, probably I'd go with the LVc as a daily.
