Congrats and eloquently stated! If I had my 14060m before my subC date I probably wouldn’t have gotten the latter. Enjoy!

I applaud your choice, it's so rare nowadays to not give into the hype.

I can relate, but the opposite direction. I wanted a BLNR by giving up my Coke in the process. Everyone, including my AD, was recommending I keep the Coke as it's value is ultimately worth more than the BLNR. But I just wasn't feeling the 5 digit any longer and needed a change.

I‘ve been through a somewhat different but similar journey, 126600 to 14060. Gotta admit that I might find my way back to the 114060, though. It won’t replace the 5-digit for me, but it’s kinda the bridge into the chunky 6-digit jewelry SS watch world.

After a couple of years with my GMT LN I also moved it on, the GMT flat caseback coupled with the supercase design was just too bulky for my wrist.

5 digit for the win!

AMEN. I just did the same with Kermit (originally my Hulk) that I did not love. Got the 16710 and will NEVER look back.

I’ve given up on 6 digits entirely. Looking forward to the new Tudor diver.

I wish I didn't want my BLNR. The thing now sells for four grand more than I paid for it. I keep asking myself if I'm really that much happier with it than with a regular GMT...

I was not impressed with the 6 digit Subs, and as a result of "doing my homework", I ended up with a 5 digit sub and could not be happier. The 6 digit, tried on at my AD (and no purchase, thank goodness), was just not for me. I almost could not believe how much the different the 5 digit was as far as fitment and how it wore for me. (It was purchased after trying on a 5 digit Sub of a friend, and seeing how it wore).

I hope at least one person benefits from your post.

Thanks. I agree with your note on homework.

I think once you do your homework and study things like the original references and how they’ve changed through the years and what their original case proportions and design were, you appreciate the 5 digits much more. More true to the design history of the pieces.

And as much as I am skeptical about some of the people making Basel world predictions. The one I hope is true is that we see a return to form of the older case proportions. The best way I could describe it is they lost their elegance. I’d like to see that come back.

The six digit watches are marginally larger than five and four digits watches. Six digit watches definitely don't fall into the overly big watch fad camp. Buy what works for you, simple as that...

Congrats, I did the same. Went from 6 digit for almost a year then started to fall in love with the earlier 5 & 4 digit models.

I had a BLNR - And today I don’t. (14060)

I love the BLNR ... In photos online, on Instagram, in forum photos, etc. When I saw it I knew I wanted to have it. Until I didn’t.

It happened quickly. Maybe even a few minutes into owning it. I loved the BLNR but I hated it on me.

I should love it though. Everyone else does. ADs can’t keep them in stock. It’s going to be discontinued (maybe?)? I have to like it. It’s gone up almost 30% in value since I got it.

Nope. Still don’t like it. It’s chunky, bulky, not proportioned well - beautiful yes - but on my 6.75 inch wrist? No. You can’t fool yourself no matter how hard you try.

Took a year to figure out, but finally, I knew what I wanted. I wanted a 5 digit sports model with the newest movement I could get.

I found it.

A late 2011 - 14060m. B&P with sharp lines and in excellent condition. No solid end links, no maxi case, no bulky clasp. Perfect.

Some advice to those just starting in watches, don’t make the same mistakes I did. Just because everyone else loves something doesn’t mean you also have to. It’s not about the investment or the money. Just be true to yourself and your own taste and style. It’s the best advice I can give.

I will sleep well tonight.

I hear ya, a few years back (when there wasn’t a shortage) I was dead set on getting a bluesy. It looked amazing in pictures and on YouTube. Went to my AD and they had both the bluesy and the black dial TT sub...didn’t like the bluesy on my wrist bc It didn’t fit my style. Thought it was too preppy for me so went with the black dial and couldn’t be happy with my decision...I still look at pics of the bluesy and think...wow what a great looking watch lol

Have to pick what you want and not everyone else. I could have put my name on the list for a Batman...but I was looking for a daily wearer and didn’t think I would want to wear it everyday for various reasons (won’t get into the weeds) and picked up an explorer 2 black dial instead.

I think the Batman is an amazing watch, it just doesn’t fit in my small collection at the moment.

Two great pieces you got there! I hear ya. I felt the same way about the BLNR too. It just didn’t quite fit my style. Sometimes it take a little while for that to sink in ... luckily for you, it happened in the days when you could still go to an ad and try things on!

Well done for doing the right thing for you and not everyone else. Agree that the Sub is an excellent piece to have. Dare I say a must have in any collection!

Funny, i wore a buddies BLNR for a week and had a similar opinion. It’s beautiful, but i wouldn’t buy one for myself. He absolutely loves it and i am pumped for him. I’m glad i don’t have another watch i have to chase .

Looks great on you, congrats. The right watch is always the one that sings to you.

In my case, I thought I was set on a 114060 and ended up with an Explorer 2. My second Rolex I was SURE was going to be an Explorer, and I ended up with a white Milgauss. Two quirky, unloved watches but the ones that spoke to me. Go figure!

Congrats, I remembered a local Rolex AD lost their status and have all the leftover Rolex onsale, there was an 14060M that has been sitting around for months, saleperson would let me have it for about $4,000

Sound advice. I thought I wanted a bATMAN too initially, then realise its actually a BlackMan (LN) is all I need.

I fell out love with the BLNR too. It was my first Rolex but it came and went quick.

I have gone in a huge circle in the last year buying 7 watches, only 3 of which I still have.

What I learned is that each watch is a very personal experience and what looks good online or what others think are hot don’t end up satisfying me if they don’t embody my style and personality.

Congrats on finding your style.
