Yet another “what rolex should I get next” thread

Haha yep - it’s another one of “those” threads :)

So - I currently have a DSSD that I bought new in 2015, and an omega bond seamaster I bought new in 2005. I’d love a GMT rolex Batman but at the same time also lusting after the Sub date.

Thing is - I recently moved from CT to AZ and have no relationship with any AD’s out here. Plus back in the day there was no SS Rolex Sports disappearance from AD’s or impossible to get subs. I really don’t wanna buy grey and pay well over MSRP for a Batman either.

So I guess what I’m asking is - what would you guys do ? Just get on a list at one of my new locations AD’s for a Batman ? Or have them order a Sub ? I’m lost at this point and need guidance haha

Entirely up to you.
I think a GMT would pair nicely since you already have a great diver.
Pop in to some local ADs, introduce yourself and explain that you recently relocated and what you want. You never know. Good luck.

GMT is a little different than your divers. You could get a black bezel. May be easier to get.

I'm leaning towards doing it this way actually. Probably the best way to go at this point.

And a GMT I think is the route I'll go as well.

I actually have some interest in the polar Explorer II as well. Something about the while dial and black hands / hour marker surrounds really sets the dial apart and would add some spunk to the collection of otherwise black faced watches.

Mike, Travis’s advice is spot on and you’re smart to follow it.

The GMT or Explorer II Polar would be nice. I think the Explorer may be easier to source as well, and it is a great reference with a great wrist presence!

Buy a Platinum Daytona you’ll be able to get anything else after that if you want it.

hahaha yes ! Sad but true.

Also, the Platona is a grail Rolex of mine. Met a member here on TRF that had one on at a GTG several years ago. Nice and heavy and looked really good in person.

Actually I lived in AZ for 10 years and moved from MA to Tucson. In general I had a great time living there until the company I was with was taken over and most everyone laid off. I hope you're enjoying the nice weather at this time of year. Yes I love the Platona. Had it since the beginning of December and have worn it almost every day.

I don't think anyone does. But unless you get lucky, it's really your only option right now :(

A GMT sounds good. The BLNR would be a great add. Like that idea. I suppose a Exp II Polar would work but I've never been a big fan of it myself. What about a TT CHNR (if you like it and it's within budget)?

Would it be possible to just buy the watch through the same AD you purchased from in CT and have them ship it? That way you maintain the relationship and save on taxes? If not, agree with the post above about introducing yourself to ADs in the area.

+1 this is a great idea. I bought a ‘classic’ ceramic GMT last week and I absolutely love it. Found it in 3 days and am so happy with it.

Hi Mike, I am a "neighbor" of yours in Mesa.

The best all-around AD in Arizona is Wesley's on Fifth Avenue in Old Town Scottsdale. They have been there since 1953 and sell only Rolex and high end (very high end) jewelry. I've been going there since 1987.

They treat their customers well, screen for the "watch "flippers", and deal ONLY with walk-ins and other local residents. No phone, email or out of state sales. In fact they dread any phone calls.

They are very sensitive to doing things the "right way" which is a very good thing.

In my opinion you could not find a better Rolex AD. Go there and gently make friends with them. Over time you will find this to be of great advantage to you.

What you do NOT want to do is make them think that you are into buying as many of the hot models you can. They would look very suspiciously on that (I have personally seen that first hand with a walk-in "flipper" one time when I was there), so be careful how you handle that. They will work with you if they know you are a serious collector/enthusiast. They will have to gain their confidence in you.

Stop in sometime, introduce yourself, and get to know them. The owner is Bob Wesley, and Lyndell Garcia is the Rolex sales rep. They are great people and, if not busy, love to talk watches. Bob goes to Baselworld in Switzerland every March, so his business is always up to par on Rolex.

Get a Black GMT LN at retail, very versatile and nice diversification of watches with a top of the line diver (and the Omega) and a GMT.

YES! GOOD POINT!

And per my post above to Mike, please note that Wesley's -- and many other AD's -- would be less impressed if you refer to watches by the unprofessional nicknames.

(Everyone should act more professional when introducing yourself to a new AD, right?)
