Happy to have found this thread. I just purchased my first "real" camera, a Sony a6000. The thing is incredible BUT it is also a lot to handle for someone who has only ever used point-shoot film/ camera phones.

Until Saturday I had no idea that aperture, ISO and shutter speeds existed!

Doing my best to learn (which hasn't been easy since I'm not that tech savvy).

Anyone out there have the a6000? Any good resources for a beginner? I'm not trying to be Ansel Adams or Neil Leiffer here. I just want to capture cool things that happen in my daily life with better quality than the iPhone can deliver.

If there is a camera club near you, I would recommend joining it. I learn something every time I go to our club's monthly meeting.

Wow! So nice to have stumbled upon this thread! Taking pictures is easy, but trying to convey that message through your perspective, that part is hard.

I'm a part-time hobbyist, who moved from a Canon G10, to a Canon 550D, and very recently a Canon 5dmk2. Perspective and composition is still something I struggle with, especially with travel photos. I saw lots of great pics in here, and I look forward to seeing more!

Since I saw some automotive related posts (ok, just one ) I will go ahead and share

In case you didn't know where I'm from...

And yes, I like my cars dirty

And here's a random shot from my iPhone, on one of our infamous stormy days:

I wish I was half decent at taking landscape pics...

...in the meantime, here are more automotive shots:

And just in case anyone wanted to hear how the car in the last pic sounded... here you go.

I took these photos in front of the house this afternoon. Son-in-law Garrett is teaching two year-old grandson Louie how to skate and play pond hockey.

These shots are awesome mate. What focal length do you use?

@lipjin, those are some stunning shots mate! Was in HK recently (just before the protests), and you make me wish I lugged my came out to The Peak!

@Kingair, the FXX were from the US, and were at Sepang for Ferrari Racing Days Asia.

And here I am, with my favourite car of 2014:

Is this the new iphone 6 you snapped these great shots with, just now? I love these shots!!! It's a given that traditional DSLR photography is irreplaceable, with all the control it affords, but there is a new category of photography emerging I've read of online: cell phone photography. I love my DSLR, and would never stop using it for my street photography, product photos, and other interests, but in a pinch, when no other mode is available, the cell phone camera has been there for me. Be it iOS, Android, Windows, Blackberry, as long as it has a great camera, they will perform and produce at its individual level.

The first one is mine and second one from my brother Carl.

The chips are from a closed casino in California and the wave is from Newport Oregon.
