Old Rip Van Winkle

10 year old. Being offered to me at $350, is this market? But more importantly is it $350 good, one could get more readily available top shelf stuff for that scratch.

How about 20 or 23yr old? Not sure about the 10yr but the 20 is over $1000 a bottle

I think that's a pretty market price. Just saw another bottle listed for $375 in a secondary market forum I'm pretty active in. There are better whiskeys out there IMO but for the novelty and rarity.....

I paid $250 for a bottle of 12 year in July, this was less than open market value (which is insane) I grew up in Kentucky and as said before, PVW is a nice bourbon, but over priced these days!

I just bought a bottle of 10 and 12 year. With taxes, the 10 was $86 and the 12 was $106. That is what you should be paying. It is nowhere close to $350 good. I would never even consider it. For that money, you could get Macallan 18 Spanish sherry oak aged or Johnnie walker blue king George V which is way better. If you want cool factor of having something that’s hard to get then go for it. Otherwise, spend your money on something else.

I turned down a bottle of Pappy 23 for $350 yesterday.
Still hunt here. Did score a bottle of George T Stagg today.

I agree with Chad!

That is pretty much retail on a 23 you’re crazy for passing on it

Manny, you are one of my original bourbon enablers/ corruptors.
I'm still hunting!
Never tried the 23. I have a bottle. I love the 20 but any of my PVW is only used to celebrate a milestone.

Very happy with the George T Stagg that I found today!

Yeah.... if this offer comes your way again, then please let me know :)

Chad not disagreeing that it's way above retail, but it does seem to be consistent with what it's "trading" at. The same market where 20/23 year is going for 1500+ per bottle.

GTS is vvvvv solid.

I actually prefer the 20 to the 23 for the PVW. Would also suggest avoiding Stagg Jr if you think it will be anything like George T

Have you ever tried it? It's not worth $350 to me...Cost on a bottle is $48.44 for a store to buy it from a distributor MSRP is $60

Pappy Van Winkle (15, 20, 23) are the most desirable (but Old Rip Van Winkle 10 year tastes better than Pappy 15year). The 23 year Pappy is absolutely delicious. But I would never ever pay the money people want for it. All the Pappy I've gotten over the past two years has been at Cost or free. So I guess I have a jaded view on it.

There's better bourbon and whiskey out there for a fraction of the cost of what people want.

Blind taste tests never lie...alot of hype for Pappy because you can't just go out and buy it.

I love me some PVW (15 then a close 10by far)but I guess it’s my taste buds but there are better for less. Nothing against it at all. I think it’s a lot like people saying they have something special. Blade and Bow is GREAT, a little cheaper is Knob Creek 25, and Bookers, and IW Harper. Still it’s all about preference.

Pappy 23 at $350.00 is well worth it. Pappy 15 is the best I've ever had. Sure the hype is WAY out of hand but if you are lucky enough to score, without being extorted, treat yourself.

This Thanksgiving will see the opening of Pappy 20 as well as a few other choice brands for a Holiday bourbon taste test.

It’s crazy that people are willing to pay so much over retail. Not me. I can add a lot of other bourbons and whiskies for the money.

I get it. However, how many gaming systems are there compared to whiskies, bourbons, and scotches? It's not like you can say, "Shoot, there are 50 better gaming systems out there at a lower price." I read up on the history of PVW. The fire that took out the distillery and 7 warehouses was in 1996. 21 years ago. It didn't become popular until it was featured on some tv show a fews back. There is no reason for a shortage other than poor business planning and management. I bet money if it was widely available, the desire to have it would drop significantly. It really isn't that great compared to other brands on the market. Just my 2 cents.

Old Rip is not worth $350. I paid $90 for one last year but not sure I would pay much more. This rare bourbon price game is crazy. Buy whats readily available like Four Roses Single Barrel, Blantons, Angels Envy, Makers 46, etc. Those are solid bourbons for the price and I bet if you blind tasted any of those to PVW vintages it would be hard to distinguish the difference.

Unless you are planning to sell it for the higher market price, I guess it really comes down to whether you want to spend $350 on a bottle of bourbon that retails for $60.

I’ve had it. It’s good. But imho, not worth $350.

Now, the William Larue Weller and Sazerac 18 on the other hand...

Oh, it is most definitely a cult and as others have said, the hype is absurd. The demand vs supply of the new Daytona has nothing on the PVW and BTAC releases.

So, you are either part of the cult, hoping to make money off the cult, or you just wait until the universe calls your number and drops a bottle in your lap.
