David Cassidy Dies at 67

David Cassidy, pop culture idol of the 1970s, died Tuesday in a Florida hospital. The musician and actor was 67.

His publicist JoAnn Geffen confirmed his death, with a statement from his family. “On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”

He had been hospitalized for several days with organ failure. Cassidy announced his diagnosis with dementia in early 2017. He performed at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York in March, talking about his dementia, and said his arthritis made playing guitar an ordeal.

...[Cassidy] regularly sold out stadiums, leading to commentators to coin the phrase “Cassidymania.” Several of his shows resulted in riots or mass hysteria, including one notable 1974 performance in Australia, which garnered calls for Cassidy to be deported from the country.

At a 1974 London concert, nearly 800 people were injured in a stampede at a Cassidy concert, and one teenage girl died a few days later. He stopped touring and acting soon after....

Every single woman I dated at some point mentioned having had a thing for David Cassidy as girls in the '70's. Seemed like a decent fellow. A cultural icon. RIP. Sorry for his passing too soon.

Having an older sister, smack dab in the middle of the Partridge Family's main demographic, I wound up hearing (much, much) more of David Cassidy's music than I would have, had I been an only child. Bobby Sherman and Cowsills, as well.

Oh well, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

RIP Mr. Cassidy.
Seems as though you didn't find that much of it in life.

I believe Shaun was actually a step brother. David’s Dad had been married a few times.

RIP

Yep, this guy was plenty popular with the girls in the '70s. I remember my wife was a big fan.

I didn't watch them but they were called the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. I grew up in the 70's. Jack Cassidy (father) who married Shirley Jones who played David's mother on the show died in a fire caused by his cigarette. He had some issues, I think he was drunk again. Shirley might have been Shaun's mother if I remember correctly.

Parker Stevenson was the other Hardy Boy. My sister used to watch the show.

Rest In Peace David Cassidy.

I remember a song in the uk charts in about 1985 by david Cassidy,

it was called 'the last kiss'

it wasn't bad, but he was before my time, and more of an American icon,

it was the bay city rollers in the uk I believe at that time.
