My new GS

Just picked it up today, this new SBGM221 looks and feels great. It is my first Grand Seiko, have been eyeing it for a couple of months, along with several other models.

I visited the AD several times, tried it on and on and on, read numerous reviews, and told the AD I’ll take it, but I want a brand new, factory fresh piece. No problem, he placed the order, and here it is.

Everything we know about the GS, the finishing, the hand sets, the dial, all stand out on this GMT. Sits nicely on my 7.25 inch/18.2cm wrist, not as tall as I expected. Only a few hours in, but my first impression is just what I was hoping for, gleaming finish to the case, a clean fresh dial, highly reflective indices, more casual than dress, nice alligator strap. Looking forward to wearing it all week.

Congrats. I picked it up as well a few months ago. How do you like the brown strap? I purchased a blue alligator strap from GS

I like the strap, it is supple right out of the box, and it moves away from dressy and more to casual (this watch will never be ‘sport’)
Ironically, in most of the reviews I read and saw, they replaced the original alligator strap with some brown or tan alternative. Not bad but I prefer original.

Congratulations! I love mine. I feel like this is the sweet spot in the current GS lineup. A truly classic design, great movement, flawless build, and unbeatable price for what you get.
