Evidently some AD's rather more unscrupulous than others!

I shan't name and shame. Unless it's clearly stated in black and white I've always been under the impression a deposit is refundable.

Clearly you have more luck locating the watch David. Haven't heard back from the AD today and they close in 2 minutes lol. So no hope for today then!

Perhaps they think "non transferrable" includes the transfer of money back to the person who put the deposit down.

In the meantime while waiting for the outcome how about a pic of the watch your dad gave you?

I might buy the dang watch, wear it......

Flip it next year before my BDay for something else, sounds like UK prices aren't going down ANYTIME soon!

Do you mind if I ask your age? Genuinely curious. Thanks.

I'll be 30 next year. Hence why I wanted to get the watch a gift to myself. But since my dad decided to get it I'd like to respect his wish to wear it when my birthday comes round.

Good result, you must be relieved.

I never understand tactics like that. They know the Sub will sell as it's being put in the window. For the amount of money they are talking about for a deposit, it is totally insignificant to them but quite a lot of money to you. It just doesn't seem worth squabbling over from their perspective (unless they are in the habit of taking multiple deposits on the same watch with the intention of being slow and obtuse in the hope that customers say "screw it" and walk away in which case they should not be allowed to continue as an AD).

Enjoy your new sub when it comes

I know it's just petty, the watch will sell in seconds! Thanks a lot for all the support from the TRF community!

Just another note...

Generally, when you pay a deposit for goods in the UK you DO forfeit it if you don't buy the goods unless the seller does something wrong. Also, the seller would be entitled to sue for the balance as a contract to buy was created at point of deposit payment.

However, the various requirements the seller has to satisfy are often overlooked, as in Sarosh's case, rendering the contract void.

Just be careful what you are signing and think beforehand of the consequences if you change your mind.

Good afternoon to my TRF friends! Just thought I'd give you an update with where I'm going with this thread. So basically my wife and I decided that we would pay my dad the money for the Sub and then give it to him as a 70th birthday present next year as he's had the same omega watch for the past 15 years. It's gonna be a surprise so I hope he's happy with it. He's been hinting at getting a new watch for a few years

On the other hand, I have shifted back to my original choice for getting the BLNR having tried on a friends yesterday. Pictures don't do it justice. So that will be my incoming for my 30th, pick it up in Jan. I know I've had my doubts about it but god it's a beauty up close. Gonna stick it on RubberB straight away coz it'll be worn at work. The beautiful PCL bracelet will go straight into the safe with its stickers attached lol.

Glad the AD saw sense and gave you a refund, they have been getting very over-mighty here of late so we need to push back at times.

Neil it's because they know we love the watches and we'll bend over backwards to get them. They need to stop ripping us off, buying a PM just to get a SS model at list? No thank you. There's plenty more rolex in the sea! Lol

Yeah I'm sure he'd love it. Plus I'm getting the watch I wanted from the outset which is a bonus!
