Why does Omega call some models “Replicas?”

I know that they are legitimate and are on the omega website but it just seems weird to have “genuine Omega replicas” and it not mean something bad or something forbidden on this site. Maybe “Re-issue” or “tribute” instead?

Interesting they would call them that. Is it potentially an effort to not anger the folks that bought the originals? Were the originals LE’s?? Even then re-issue seems like a better choice of words.

A: " That's a nice looking Omega, may I ask which model is that?"

B : " It's a Replica "

A : " Oh wow it looks real "

B : " No, it's a genuine replica "

A : " You mean A grade replica ? "

B: " NO, it's an authentic replica model by Omega "

Just a poor choice of words. I listed this for sale on some FB groups and I received a warning for selling a counterfeit product. When I first purchased this and shared this on TRF, someone told me no fakes allowed, lol. Personally, I like the name.

Reissue would imply it is the same model, identical to the original. Replica points out that it not identical to the original

Is there another example of this aside from the 1998 version of the 2915? I haven't seen another. That was a poor choice of label, in my opinion.

An even worse choice was the watch they called a "CK 2998" in recent years. It looked nothing like a real 2998...never understood that choice except they must have hoped to use a classic reference to sell new watches that bore no resemblance to the original. The FOIS would have been the logical choice for the 2998 label.

"Continuation" would be a better word.
