Relevance is relative
No one is shouting INCOMMMINNNNG for a Portuguese as they are for the new Basel release, and maybe that's what the watch was....a non incoming
Since its release in 1997 it's still being discussed
Hard to say that about many other ICONS of years past such

I really liked them a few years ago, I'd probably have gone for the black dial as the white dials wore quite wide and large and satellite dishy, and when trying on I found the strap quite squeaky so was put off a bit.

The black dial slips under the radar
Now the deep blue on the other hand
The white wears big for sure

As much as like Portuguese chrono I wouldn't advice you to buy one if you plan on selling it anytime soon.

Bought a Portuguese Chrono in August 2012, sold it to get my LVc in 2015.
Let's say I got 70% of what I payed for it BNIB from my Local IWC Boutique !
IMO, it's still one of, if not the most good looking watch in the World !
I only sold it because as much as I loved it, I never caught myself wearing it because of one single reason: Leather Straps. I'm a metal bracelet guy and IWC almost gives you no option when it comes to bracelets !

Who knows if one day I'll get another one !?

I agree. I've been thinking lately of consolidating my collection to some degree and getting rid of a few less expensive pieces that aren't sport watches but every time I think of doing it, I realize that getting such a small amount of money for them, albeit more than I originally paid, is just not worth it and that I'd rather keep them.

I agree. Mark my words, an in-house movement with a display back is coming next year. Maybe now would be a good time to sell your current version?

Actually, an in house movement already exists on a blue dial portugueser.

Who knows, may end up being a collectors item. Truthfully, since it's a new movement I wonder how much different it's going to be compared to existing movement
