Nautilus Starting to lose it's luster?

Hello fellow members
I am actually starting to think that the prices on these is actually pretty nuts, and I really don't think it's justified what so ever, this watch is so so over priced and after sometime with it I think people are crazy now a days paying 60-70k for this piece or any Nautilus for that matter.
What do you guys think? Do you think the Nautilus market will soften in the near future?
I think these will drop to 25-35k in the near future which is a fair price for this watch
All inputs are appreciated.
Thank you.

following. Been wanting to buy one, but obviously hesitant to pay up 2x+ in grey market. What are my chances getting one on the waiting list at my local AD?

Pretty much impossible.
I bought mine at the end of 2013 after 6 month from getting my name on the waiting list.

The way I look at it is those who want to buy wish the price would fall, those who already own one hope the price will stay the same or rise

Only time will tell, but I don't see a big correction.

I like it, design icon but would never pay 2x retail but don’t think price will decline significantly any time soon.

Well 25k would be 5k less than retail, so that’s never happening. I agree, it’s not worth 60-70k. Not even close. But will they come back to retail, no. Not ever.

33k is close to the retail with tax. I can’t see this thing ever getting under 45k. They are too hot and way too many people paid over retail.

Not going to happen...

No way the watch will end up in that range. In this day and age everyone has the FOMO bug!

Not a regular on this subforum but occasionally lurk.

As a somewhat educated investor (who understands markets but does not consider watches or any luxury item as an investment), I simply do not see this ever being valued for less than 25 percent over MSRP.

As a watch enthusiast, I personally wouldn’t pay over MSRP for a 5711. In an isolated bubble where the 5711 has no legendary lure, I frankly would be hard pressed even paying MSRP knowing that amount puts you in PM territory for many brands. No bash on PP, I would easily pay more for an AC or PC. Just my personal preference.

I don’t get this watch. I mean its nice and all but even at 33k I don’t get it...

On the other hand, I do get the Royal Oak 15500st which is about the most I think a steel watch should cost (retail or the slight premium). I also get how the RO is attainable to most with under a year of wait.

It’s demand and supply (or more like bandwagoning). I would snap one at retail as there is zero chance of losing value but given that PP has like 2 watches I have interest in (nautilus and aquanaut) and the rest are round dress watches that I would never really wear its not worth my time to invest in the brand. This may change In 10-20 years who knows...

Add to that, the only times in recent memory i have actually seen someone in a 5711 is a 18-25 yr old Asian kid in shorts and slippers (i am Asian so i can say that lol) i don’t want to assiciate myself with the daddy’s trust-fund-kid crowd either...

It's a nice piece but never did much for me. If there were no hype and you could buy it at retail or less it would still be a pass for me just as many others. As far as it dropping that much in value I don't see that happening any time soon as the watch market is holding strong, even in this weird year

Nice piece but never really did anything for me. To me it's a 30K watch, period.

Unless there is a nuclear war or Covid kills half the earth’s population, there is no chance the 5711a ever sells for less than retail in the next 10 years. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just dreaming.... my 2 cents.

You answered your own question as to why the watch is in such demand. You are only interested in the two models (Nautilus and Aquanaut) yet you wonder why they are priced so high. Just remember there are probably hundreds of thousands of people just like you who are not looking for the “round dress watches” and only want the sports watches from PP. When people like you start to gravitate towards those round dress watches then I’m sure the sports watch market will come back down for everyone to afford.

It is basic Econ 101...demand outstrips supply.

It’s a three handed watch with no complications. Yes - I’ve owned it three or four times, but no- it’s not special at all. It’s also a scratch magnet. I’ll pass, as I now focus on quality over quantity.

I selfishly hope the Nautilus loses its luster/lustre so I can add the 5740 soon. It has been a mare the past few years. The watch game shouldn't be this way. I expect to walk into an AD to buy any watch at 20% discount, including the 5740.

It's actually the other way around. We have a little bit of a pullback in March but from what I am hearing, prices are going back up again beyond pre-COVID prices.

Uh... absolutely not. Pre-covid during peak Nautilus back in late 2019 getting a good condition 5711 at less than $70K took a little effort. Now getting one at $55K is easy peasy. Inflated C24 unworn listings:

To the guys saying they think the Nautilus will NEVER be available for retail... it’s been possible to buy a Nautilus for retail with minimal wait time, or less than retail used, in the last decade. You seriously cannot imagine a situation where sufficient influencing factors combine to get us back to that? EVER??? Come on now... behave yourselves...

If you guys gave me a dollar or every time people (falsely) predicted that prices would drop, I could buy myself a Nautilus by now :)
