Talk Me Out Of A Daytona

...but talk me into some other chronograph on a bracelet.
I was planning to get a black dial 116520 when I save up the $13k USD for a new one. But then I realized: at that $ level, I have access to some high-end used chronos too, and maybe I should broaden my horizon?
Okay, I know this is a Rolex forum, and I'm already sold on why I should get a Daytona. But think outside the green wave box here, and offer some other suggestions? Chronos only please, and preferably on a bracelet. Thanks!

For around the same price range and on a bracelet the PAM 236 comes to my mind.
The Daytona is a beauty though!

Just my

Okay... Get the Speedmaster 3570.50 BNIB for ~$3400 and either pocket the rest or use the difference to get another Rolex. You're welcome. /thread

OR... Get the speedy and a used Daytona!

If you like the Daytona, there is no reason to talk you out of it. Sure, at that price, there are other options, but if you like the Daytona, does it even matter?

Get a Black Bay and a Sub. Those will keep you plenty happy with cash left over to go towards the Daytona if you ever tire of one of these beauties

Second the Speedy, 3570.50. There is not chrono with more significant history and it is the most legible watch I own. That said, I have a Black SS Daytona, and I rarely wear the Speedy. The Daytona is THE chrono in my opinion.

The AP Royal Oak Chrono as seen above would be a strong consideration.

Why bother having any other than 116520. I'll go BNIB, I did actually

Get an Audemars. You might have to add a little money, but it will be worth it.

ROC is a beauty, but, it's more delicate and the daytona's movement, while not as pretty, is technically "better", if that sort of thing matters to you.

i would stick with the daytona.

I'd have to agree with the AP ROC but with your Nautilus experience maybe an AP isn't the best option (scratches even more than PP). As such I'd recommend sticking with the Daytona, going with Omega Speedmaster, or a Tudor Heritage Chronograph.

My thoughts exactly.

Get what you were saving for. I can't get enough of my 3 weeks old Daytona.

Good luck.

Not on a bracelet, but you could pick up a Dark Side Of The Moon from a trusted TRF seller and stay south of 13K.

2nd the ROC...I have thoughts here and there of flipping my daytona and picking one up. The Vacheron Constantin Overseas chrono is also worth a look...a bit more money again like the ROC, but pretty awesome looking

I can't talk you out of it because I own one and I love it. But just to throw a suggestion to the wind. You can do a Breguet Type XXII chrono

Stick with Daytona for reliability, durability, and strong resale value. I prefer white dial.

Daytonas are such beautiful chronographs and they come in all materials, steel, TT, yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, platina.
Oh go on, just buy one

Don't forget you can change the dial later on. RSC can help you if you ever decide to switch from black to white. Or vice versus.

Wish I could help, but since I bought my white dial Daytona almost 5 months ago, I haven't worn any other watch.

Sure the thought has crossed my mind that I could do a lot in my collection by liquidating it, but then I look at it and I just can't get rid of it. It just looks so classy, and sporty at the same time.

Your only regret buying it will be that your other watches will feel neglected.

Daytona is a classic, tough and lots of choices. I would go with that, I love AP's but want one of them in their most basic form, where when it comes to Rolex it is one that was designed that way from the outset and does not look like another model from the Brand. PAM, VC, AP all lovely watches but look like other models but with a chrono feature included. Snapped this on the plane yesterday and you could get this look I guess for close to 10-12K in a relatively modern version in the US.

To me stay with your heart you wont be let down.

I thought about this some before I got my 116520.

Speedmaster Pro - cheap (relative), legible, great symmetry, heritage (if that is important)
Speedmaster Sandwich - same as Pro, just nice display and sapphire xtal. Heavier and slightly thicker.
AP ROC - iconic RO, relatively thin for AP, does not look good with scratches
Daytona - 4130 movement is amazing. I constantly read of chronograph issues in many watches (not naming to upset anyone), but you don't hear that from Rolex. I've talked to a couple watchmakers and they are amazed how well the 4130 movement is. They Daytona will also hold its value better than any of the others I feel. I like how the watch isn't too thick either.
