Help me decide between these two subs??

I'm considering the purchase of one of these two subs.

Yes, I know they are very different and I can only afford one of them. Truthfully, I like them both about equally and it doesn't bother me that the TT is a little more bling than the understated SS watch.

What it comes down to, for me, is which represents the best value based on their state, condition, possible future resale, etc. The watch is complement my silver dial 36mm DJ as a nearly-every day carry watch. I want it to work equally well on the weekend, or under a suit cuff when I don't want the DJ on my wrist.

Both watches are selling for almost the same money (the stainless one is slightly more expensive)

The two-tone Submariner is from 1991, ref 16613, and has the box and papers, including the original bill of sale dated 1993. Last serviced at RSC in July 2019 and unworn since then. I don't know what, if anything has been changed on the watch, or whether 1993 is vintage enough for changed parts to even matter (?)

The steel Submariner is from 2004, ref 14060, and has no box or paperwork. Supposedly it's never been serviced and is likely due for one.

Neither watch has appreciable bracelet stretch that I could tell.

Any advice or input is appreciated. This is the only pic I have, though I do have a much higher resolution copy I can look at if needed (too large to post here).

I'm not a bluesy guy, so I'd go with the 14060 if you're cool buying without a full set.

If your DJ 36mm is SS, I would buy the 16613. If SS/18k I would buy the Sub SS

I would pick the steel sub, but the bluesy is no slouch. It's nice that the bluesy is full kit and just serviced, but you can't wear the box, and I'd still rather wear the steel one.

By the way, that's a sub date, so 16610, not a 14060.

Personally id go for the SS Sub 16610, 2004 would make it a SEL bracelet so should hold up better than the older ones.

The right is a 16610 but for lug holes!

If it comes down to these two, I would lean toward the 16610. It will be a better all around watch. Looks like its in great condition too!

For me it’s the bluesy, but if it’s a daily watch the bluesy is a little too blingy so I would choose the 16610.

Bluesy way too flashy for me, you may discover you feel the same way after purchasing it. Go with the SS

Bluesy! You have a DJ, add some color and different metal to the collection!

I would buy the steel one; classic design, metals and black is the most versatile. I’m not a fan of any gold or other precious metal. And the blue is too bright for my taste.

FWIW, my DJ is a 36mm stainless 1601 with silver dial and white gold/Onyx markers. Stainless case, white gold fluted bezel, with a recent mfgr 62510H jubilee.

I would go with that TT all day long. Better provenance with it being a full set and also service records. Plus i have a real soft spot for the Sub Date TT Blue. With your DJ being SS makes a nice swap out to TT.

Black. All day. Classic and more generally desirable.

I say bluesy. It was the reference that made me fall in love with Rolex over a decade ago. You already have a go-to SS watch for daily wear, why not add a little color to the lineup? I personally went for bluesy because it just felt more special to me. And that blue sunburst dial . . .

It’s a 6-digit model but I had to . . .

Buy the sub!

LOL, j/k. SS, but as others said, find one with the box and papers, or get a really good discount on it (because it needs a service and box and papers).

Steel, harder to get, easier to take care of, can wear everyday to any occasion, swim, sports, jetski, skydive, anything goes with a SS sub.

NEVER buy a watch without papers!

Buy the blue one; the dial is pure magic and the watch is an absolute daily-rocker!

Right only if it was serviced / as-new plus with box and papers, save the TT look for Rootbeer :)

(and yes read your post, Sub without box and no papers PLUS no service history.... ummmmmm).
