"The Book of Eli" - slow film that gets a powerful message across to the viewer!!
Hi guys,
Last night, Zemina and I took in The Hugh Brothers directed The Book of Eli, a rather slow, but extremely powerful film with a message to all of us. The story unfolds across a very barren and desolate part of Planet Earth not too far from San Francisco. Law & Order is long gone and it's simply survival of the fittest. Denzel Washington, as always, shows his versatility as one of Hollywood's most brilliant actors. Gary Oldman adds believable credence to his villanous role and the young girl from "The 70's Show" has now matured to womanhood. While most of the action is crammed into the first half of the film which shows Eli (Washington) as a one man army, the action then tends to slow down and turn more meaningful. The message is loud and clear: Another World War would obviously be of apocalyptic proportions and devastate the entire world. Survivors would be few, and the world would look so miserable that death would be a preferable option. My rating: 7/10. JJ

Is it worth seeing? I'm either seeing that or Iron Man 2 tonight.

I thought Book of Eli was good. Good general message, but I thought it could have done without the twist at the end. That was a little much.
I thought Ironman 2 was great. Very entertaining. Different from the first, but certainly not lacking by comparison IMO. |
