RIP Gale Sayers
What a great RB. Only played 68 NFL games, made the Hall of Fame. Retired due to knee injuries. Sorry he passed away at 77 years old.

Me as well.
I was fairly young and don't even remember if I ever saw him actually play. Chicago Bears fan and it's my understanding he was something very very special. Really too bad it was such a sort time he got to play. RIP

Loved Sayers' running, probably the best broken field runner ever. And Brian's Song was a great movie.

Does anyone know the cause of death? I thought he was healthy, 77 is a bit young for a former professional athlete.

Man, could the Kansas Comet run. Remember him well. One of the most exciting players to ever touch a ball in the NFL.

I was fortunate to be able to see, in person, Gayle play. I went to a couple of Bear’s home games and what a beautiful runner. Smooth, slick, a magnificent runner. There hasn’t been a running back to match his performance.

Bears tribute: Remembering Gale Sayers, 1943-2020 | Chicago Bears
Sayers and Brian Piccolo's friendship inspired one of the great sports films. RIP to one of the all time greats, on or off the field. |

That's what I saw as well. Supposedly he was diagnosed with dementia just a few years ago.
