Red Wing Boots

I really like a good shoe. Red wings are some of the best in my opinion and I just added a pair to the fleet. The black pair in the middle are a new blacksmith available with the only color the outside of the leather and as they age the creases and scuffs come through as brown for a cool antiques looks.

A couple of relatives of mine who wear work boots on a daily basis swear by them.

I love the Red Wing. I currently do not own a pair, but I used the same pair for years. I kept bringing it to my local cobbler to replace the soles.
Damn where are those shoes?
They really were the most comfortable pair I ever owned.

Their motto should be...."The best boots you'll ever own....once they're broken in."
Great boots - love my Iron Rangers but MAN those first few wears are rough.

When I worked on the loading dock at a potash mine in Carlsbad, NM, I went through two pairs of Red Wings in a year and a half.

They are indeed some tough boots.

I’ve had many pair of red wings. The latest is a pair of 1155’s I’ve had for about 5 years. I’ve put holes in the tread of other shoes in a matter of weeks but red wings never seem to wear out. The only thing I’ve done to these is pull the nails out of the heel once they started pushing up through the insole.

I'm a big fan of my Red Wings. (Sorry, don't remember the model name.) I get Bates at work (have about a 450 day lifespan), and compared to my ~8yr old RWs, they don't hold a candle.

I'm afraid, as with may things, that quality has diminished. I bought a pair of Red Wing Chukka boots 7 years ago which lasted until earlier this year. They were leather lined inside and had a sole made out of two different composition materials. When they wore out I purchased another pair. This time there was no leather lining and the sole was a single composite piece. Another example of profit over quality in my opinion.

I used to like redwings. Still pretty nice but for work they dont hold up or function as well as I would like. Switched to keen braddocks for days im not working hard and mostly just in and outa the truck since I still need a steel toe. Days I actually have to work I wear Hoffmans. 😂 lite and comfy even after 24 hours. Also love my wesco’s. When I was climbing a ton they were phenomenal. They will custom make them to your feet. Much heavier and not as soft soles for walking on concrete though. Redwing aint what it used to be 🙁

Also have a pair of meindl and hoffman pack boots when it gets cold

I like Red Wings and own plenty. Good boots for street wear and much better than made in China garbage. Like the OP, I own some Red Wing Blacksmiths and I love them. and I have a few pair in different colours. The Rovers are cool too.

White's Boots on the other hand, are on another level for sturdy, hand-made boots. Check them out.

I don’t have a pair of Red Wings currently. I’d recently heard some were made in China and some higher end ones in the US.

I wear a pair of Wolverine 1000 mile. Similar style to the iron ranger, little more dressy without the toe cap. Solid overall.

Red Wing put new soles on a pair of 8" 953 boots for me. $125 gets you the old sole cut off, the welt cleaned up, and the boots put into the same machine which poured the original soles. They could have done a nicer job reconditioning the leather, maybe cleaning it before swabbing it down with boot oil, but overall I got my money's worth.

Several times a year I'm on a job for a week or so straight, and wear two pairs of 953's in rotation. I've no complaints on the brand.

I just purchased a pair of black Iron Ranger 8084’s two days ago. Seemed like the best balance of comfort and versatility against the other heritage options. I’m using the shaped comfort RW insoles at the moment, but I might look for something slightly cushier after some break-in, which hasn’t been painful so far. The leather seems to be quite high quality (and smells really nice), but I would have liked some interior lining for the price, as I can get some next level Sendra boots made in Spain at this price. I really enjoyed cleaning and conditioning my boots today. I think I may want some western boots next. This could get addictive and expensive.

I’ve had RWs for years and get them from all over. I have never heard any of them are made in China. RW are proud if their heritage and provenance. I highly doubt there are genuine China-made versions.
