Any vintage camera collectors here?

I've noticed a pattern. People that collect things tend to not only collect one thing.

I started collecting in 2011. My fascination with vintage cameras is much like watches. Vintage cameras were just built different. The mechanical precision to get the shutters firing at such accurate speeds is amazing to me. And let's not forget design. With the exception of a few modern camera which very clearly have inspiration from vintage styling (e.g. Fujifilm X cameras).

Any other vintage camera collectors here? What've you got? I'd post pictures of my collection but I'm at work (slow day).

I'm not really a collector of anything except art glass but as a professional photographer I still own a beautiful Linhof 4x5 circa 1968 and still have a couple of Hasselblads circa 1976.

Not all that antique but the longer you live, the stuff you keep starts becoming antique.

Very nice!

I have a Hassie 500cm. Images from it are beautiful, but I just can't jive with it. When I want 6x6, I reach for one of my Rolleiflexes.

Yes, I have a bunch of old cameras including Leica, Rolleiflex, Hasselblad, and many other lesser knowns. I have around 60 cameras altogether.

I have a Rolleiflex SLR camera from the late 1970s with two lenses, a standard 35mm lens and a 200mm lens. It is in excellent condition but I haven't used it in decades. Not sure it is worth much, maybe a $100?

What's fascinating to me is the different ergonomics of all these cameras.

I've been passing my older Canon cameras to my mom. She inherited my Canon 30D a couple years ago when I bought my EOS 6D full frame DSLR.

Most of them aren't worth much, just some neat old cameras... I do have two 500 C/Ms and a few Leicas - M6, X1, X2, and a IIIf. My dad gave me his Minolta SRT 201 (which was the first camera I used in college).

Also a couple of Zero Image pinhole cameras and a few Dianas and a Holga.

About 30 of these came in a lot from a craigslist find - well indirectly, I found a typewriter through the seller, and she asked if I was interested in cameras... She sent a picture of a pile of cameras and I saw the IIIf and a Bolex in there and I said I'd take them all. She came back with a price of $300. I said sure.

Now I have them all for better or worse. Not a bad haul. Some movie 8mm and 16mm movie cameras, the IIIf, a minolta autocord, and various neat little 120 box cameras, a few SLRs including an old Pentax which I like for the Super Takumar lens. I use it on my Black magic 4K cam - nice cinematic look.

I don't have too many pics... was looking for the pics of my Rollleiflex, but I can't find them...it's the MX-EVS II. Love it! I just took it with me to Ireland last end of October. And damn, that seems like just yesterday, (but in a month that will be a year).

I have a couple! I bought a Leica M2 that I love (though I'm selling it to help pay grad school tuition), but I also have a Canonet QL17 GIII and an Olympus XA (both of these were acquired for roughly $25 a piece and are therefore keepers).

Honestly, the M2 is my favorite Leica. And I own many (also owned but sold an M8 and M9).

Keep it if you can!

I want an M2 or an MP even though he M6 is all I really need. I tried an M2 and M3 in a store and the shutter release was like butter. So smooth.

Why do you want an MP if you have an M6?

It seems to be an even better camera from what I have read and also I would really like a black paint model. The M6 is black chromed.

It’s not significantly different. I have both. The M6 is a workhorse. I’d spend the money on a new lens rather than an MP.

But if you want black paint...

Yes, black paint. I wouldn't need another lens, but that can be said for another Leica as well. I probably won't do it unless I came across a deal too good to ignore.

Might as well give them away. You can't get much for them unfortunately.

Some canons fetch quite a premium where you would not have to give them away...!

I have plenty of Canons in my collection, from the AE-1 Program, to a couple Canonet rangefinders, and my college camera, and Elan IIe, and then my Digital SLRs (1DmkII, and 5DmkII) and point and shoots.

Funnily I have NO Nikons, but almost every other major manufacturer, and some not so major.

My best digital camera is actually a point and shoot from Sigma with their Foveon sensor. I feel like it's medium format quality in a small camera.

Hi,

New to these forums, but also have a background in vintage cameras. Let me know if you have any technical questions. I specialize in Leica, but have knowledge of most.

My father passed away last year and one of the things I inherited from him was his Agfa Solinette. He purchased this camera when he was in the Army and it remained his go-to camera for MANY years.

Beautiful work.

I love it when people nail composition.
