Seiko collection: input requested

Hi TRF,

I'd like share my small Seiko collection and get input and/or feedback from members regarding the current line up and possible additions. I'm a big fan of Seiko. I think you get tremendous value at just about every price point, from the classic SKX, to SRP turtles, and up through Grand Seiko.

I've kicked around the idea of adding a Marine Master 300 or a Grand Seiko diver, but I feel like I sort of have divers well covered with my line up plus a Rolex Sub LVc.

I think my overall next add may be a true dress watch (simple PM on strap) and I like the new GS offerings in that category. What are people's thoughts on that as a next step?

I replaced my SRP777 with a MM300 and so far haven't looked back. You may end up ditching the SKX as with the Padi and the MM300 you will probably find too much overlap but it is surely a good watch and worth the addition.

I wont be discussing about the GS watches because the other readers are very capable of giving their opinions.

What I can offer are my thoughts on affordable Seiko watches that offer so much for a fraction of the price. I'm a Seiko fan too Sir and my collection includes a Pepsi, a vintage diver birth year,both Turtle & Samurai Blue Lagoon and a SBDB 009 SD Tuna

You need to act quickly and search for the 2016 Baselworld Seiko Cal 8R48 Presage 60th Anniversary LE collection either the elegant enamel dial or the gorgeous black Urushi lacquered dial before they all disappear into private hands.Those babies are highly collectable and would be worth a small fortune in the near future !

If a dress watch is what you seek ,then I want you to consider the Presage Cocktail Time line-up (I think there are 8 models to choose from) introduced in Baselworld 2017

How would you compare the size of the MM to the SRP? Looks similar in photos, but I love how the SRPA21 hugs my wrist and I wonder if the MM is similar.

I'd agree that you have dive watches covered pretty well, and would suggest that you go in the direction of getting a dressier Seiko Presage or GS. I recently acquired the SBGW253, and to me, it's the perfect dress watch. If you want a PM, then consider the the gold or platinum version (but act quickly as they are getting more and more difficult to find at retail prices):

The MM lays flatter on the wrist, but it is top heavy compare to the SRP's. The SRP wears just a little wider also. The MM has a smaller dial so it looks small when looking down on it. It wears more like a 42mm because of one piece case design with the flat back.

MM300 is definitely thicker but I think overall the SRP covers slightly more surface area but not by much. Few pics below.

Very helpful photos. Thanks for posting. Looks like the MM case underside has a similar shape to the SRP, which I think is very helpful for allowing the watch to snug up to your wrist (a feature which Subs lack).

A lot of the surface area of the SRP is case, where the MM has a more pronounced bezel (width, height, is it ceramic?). I've got to try one on.

The two ADs I know all sold their allocations, but there are a few available on chrono24 and ebay. They also pop up on various forums from time to time.

Without going to GS, Megan's advise is spot-on. If I were into more dressy watches I would go straight for those Presage chronos. Lovely.

However, if you want to go right to the top, it has to be that GS SBGW253.

Love the new GS dress watches, with the just Grand Seiko logo. I feel like the "Grand Seiko" only models work so well for dress watches, but not so well for the sports lines.

A cheaper option would be to add a quartz. I like you have a few mechanical divers from Seiko, but felt like the 9F quartz was such a unique movement for Seiko, I had to own one. Bought a used older model, which I love the dial texture and kanji day. Sometimes makes me wonder what's the point of a mechanical movement.

Here was my choice, Seiko Presage with black enamel dial. Love it!
