I think TT generally looks good and Rolex pull it off the best. The DJ in yellow gold to me pops. The TT Sub with Blue face looks stunning, as does the Daytona TT with blue face which I am the proud owner off. Before owning a BLNR I never wanted SS, now I appreciate and enjoy very much, including owning a SS Skydweller and Daytona, with Hulk on order.

In the 70's and 80's when I was starting my craze for Rolex watches, the TTs were fashionable and the steel ones were much less desirable, so that it became customary for some gray market sellers to transform the rolex of steel in TT, changing the bezel, hands and placing gold to the oyster or jubilee, they were recognized because the date was white background and not gold like the original TT.

I don't mind the TT sub and gmt models. However TT for the other models don't speak to me at all.

Its so model dependent. For instance I think the two tone YM2 looks better than both the SS and YG version. The GMT 2 also looks great in two tone.

I think for dress watches, you either go full PM or SS, something about a TT DJ that reminds me of retirees lounging around not doing much...

I’ve gotta say both the 5 digit and 6 digit Ceramic bluesies are stunning..... that’s coming from a 28 year old.

I just wear my GMT too much for work, so anything else doesn’t get much wrist time.

Part of the issue with most TT's, in my opinion, is not that it's TT but the level of contrast between the metals. If you take a look at some of the classically remembered Rolex TT's (thinking Datejust here) the contrast between the gold is absolutely garish. If the color palate was a bit more subdued, the TT could be much more tasteful, as we see with the new CHNR. I will submit that PCL's are two tones as well, but in addition to being a textural contrast, color contrast is still monochromatic.

Whew! I’m still an older man, though. That never seems to change.

I didn't care for TT at all during my 20s, but 30s now and they're definitely growing on me:

I tried on a GMT II CHNR TT at my local AD, it was for another customer...I liked it, but didn’t love it. I’m with the others that feel that it’s more of an 80s look. I prefer WG or platinum.

That being said, my AD was wearing a 5980 TT and it looked amazing. That’s probably the only TT I would buy.

More expensive = less popular.

Many prefer cheaper SS GMT or Sub.

I tried an SS Sub after 15 years of TT DJ36 but could only bear the monotone look for 4 weeks before trading the Sub for another TT... a DJ41 this time. Ah... bliss...

SOME models look nice in TT, but I wouldn’t wear one to visit my uncle in the nursing home. I’m afraid the nurses would perform a forced catheter insertion !

Rolex makes the best TT in my opinion. I used to not like it when I bought my first rolex a SUBC date. Then it started growing on me until I bought one and I am really happy with the purchase.
But I have to say it looks better with darker colored clothes. You can dress it up or down.
The bling factor is medium. I don't see it being more blinggy than let's say a BLNR.

I bet TT is more popular than we would think from the small sample set we are exposed to on TRF. I bet that the TT DJ and the TT Submariner are excellent sellers for Rolex. However I get where you’re coming from as I would agree that for the folks who aren’t in to TT are way not in to them.

I’m not a fan but I don’t dislike them. For me, it’s go all the way or don’t bother. I wouldn’t have a partial circumcision so why would I have a half pm watch?

If someone likes TT and buys one, then I’m happy that they’re happy.

In your opinion why are TT less popular

I’m surely late to the TT discourse yet maybe a couple of thoughts might resonate with members’ experiences.

TT is a stepping stone for many who bought their first Rolex in SS. Demographics determine demand in many ADs. So I believe as we get older we experiment with experience. I think most start with SS and pass through TT before going pure PM. Of course some start at the other end with PM to begin with - and those prolly never chase a TT at all. Either way, TT demand is always softer than SS and some never buy TT at all.

The other thought is value for price. The analytical segment of buyers look at a SS Rolex at some price point and then compare the higher TT cost. They know that the few bits of 18k gold on a TT don’t justify the higher price. This dampens demand methinks.

For example, today’s Sub-Date in SS is $7,500 (let’s just use that as a basis) and it’s cousin in TT is $13,400. Each keeps time, resists shock, remains water tight and fits the wrist just the same. But paying 79% more for gold PCLs, bezel & winding crown doesn’t make sense for many. Exceptions exist - Bluesy Sub’s and Root Beer GMT’s have strong demand - but for the most part Little Excitement for the other TT’s.

In my opinion and perception. Rolex is the quintessential 'gold watch'. As such, I really want gold in mine. The two tone Datejust 41, fluted bezel, black stick dial, jubilee bracelet fits that description to a T. If they made an all yellow gold DJ41, then that would be my watch of choice. But two tones to me are just awesome looking.

I'm also almost 47 years old and wear a sweater vest almost every day of the year. And my wedding ring of 25 years is also a two tone from 1993. So... maybe I'm in the old man demographic.

If they can afford TT they can definitely afford SS. They bought TT because that’s what they wanted.

Personally I can walk in and buy full gold instantly but choose to do this in the near future.

I’m sure many that buy SS can also afford TT or Full Gold but choose SS because off choice, or maybe if thinking like you do EVERY SS buyer wants TT Gold but can’t afford it so bought SS.

Nope. I love TT and own a DD40 and a RG Skydweller - not because I cant afford gold at all. I chose to buy TT and no I'm not old. Early 30s.

Funny thing is I know alot of young guys rocking TT and they love it as well.
