Curious About Something
I have four Rolex watches. Three of these I purchased from this forum. The fourth came from an AD. The three I purchased here all have boxes but are missing some paperwork in one form or another. I'm not a flipper. The three I own are the three references I wanted. They're staying. The fourth was a gift to my wife that is a complete set.
For the sake of this post let's omit #4 from the discussion since my question doesn't pertain to it. Does a Certificate of Appraisal from an AD add any value for a potential resale in the event some of the 'case candy' as they refer to it in the guitar world is missing? The appraisal includes;
Please, lets suspend the "What do you care you're not selling anyway" nonsense. No, I'm not selling but I am curious if appraisals are of any value other than if something was lost or stolen. After all, it does include the S/N which could be readily compared to the watch itself thereby confirming authenticity. What say you? --D |

Certificates of Appraisal and Certificates of Authenticity are of little to no value unless commissioned by you, for you.

The only value they add is if you need them for insurance purposes.

FWIW, you did not purchase the watches from this forum.
You met fellow members that sold you their watches independently. And agree with above. But if your not selling, you don’t need. Sorry if you think that’s nonsense. It’s applicable to the topic at hand.

You do need an appraisal if you want to insure the watches properly. I get one for each watch I purchase because if you purchase any pre-owned or less-than-retail, if it get's stolen or damaged for any reason, you want to get replacement value. Most insurance companies under a blanket only cover jewelry up to $5K. So if you're okay with that, then no reason to get an appraisal. But if you want replacement value, you'll have to submit individual appraisals to the insurance company and have them insured individually. So from my perspective, I would get them appraised no matter what and by your question I'm assuming these are not insured to their true value.

I’m clarifying. It’s an essential part of communication. Sound like you are good to go though. Sounds like you don’t need my help. Or anyone else’s. Good for you.

Good try.
Personally, I’ve most definitely used the term “I met him (or her) online”. I’m certain the vast majority of internet users have. But I applaud your anger and indignation. I can relate.

Try and be nice please Seth.
OP, the only paperwork to add value to your watches will come from the RSC after servicing.

Appraisals are for insurance coverages. It really doesn't help for resale value but any documentation is good to have. I think appraisals are pretty much gratis when you purchase new from an AD although sometimes you have to ask. I did and recieved them for all of my new purchases.
