1Rolex/1st Post/2 Questions

I must say there is a vast amount of knowledge plus some wonderful individuals participating in the forum. Appreciate you having me. I felt I knew about about the Rolex line but after a few minutes on the forum I was reduced to a pre-K level. Spent time yesterday trying to decipher some unique descriptions - Hulk, Pepsi, etc. and then came across the thread with the nomenclature explained.

My Rolex journey started in the 70's when I spotted a Submariner on James Bond. Once out of college and working with IBM, a SM was on on the wrist of the top sales performer and best dresser in the office. Fast forward a number of years to 2004 when I finally bought my Rolex. A Submariner ND in steel, Style - R14060M30B9315. Its been my faithful every day companion ever since and continues to develop character.

Two questions - 1) I have what I believe is referred to as a 2 line. Whats the difference between this and a 4 line? 2) What does my style number tell me?

Many thanks and I look forward to thoughtful participation here for many years to come!

Good Choice.

1. The 2 line and the 4 line watch are identical except for the extra lettering. That lettering simply states that the watch has passed the COSC test criteria to, by law, be able to put Chronometer on the dial. There is some discussion on if the early 2 line watches used tested movements as well, but Rolex simply stuck with tradition on Subs.

2. 14060M30B9315

14060M = model reference (M = the Modified 3130 movement as opposed to the earlier 3000 movement)
30 - black dial
B9315 = Bracelet model 93150

Welcome to the forum! It’s cool that you found a place to learn more about your Submariner!

I’m also new around here, and also wanted a Rolex Submariner since I saw it on 007 in the ‘70’s. But I didn’t get mine until a few months ago, with the kind assistance from this forum.

I won’t repeat it all here, but if you’re interested, I posted a thread on my Submariner journey on this forum, called “Ode to the Classic Rolex Submariner.”

Here’s the link:

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=686424

And here’s my 14060M, though mine is a four liner:

I’m glad you’ve been enjoying your Submariner for the past fifteen years as your daily watch; mine, too, is my daily watch and my one and only!

Again, welcome and a belated congratulations on your lifelong acquisition!!

Michael
