Need help on this 16753 please

Considering buying this gmt sub and something is throwing me off on it, it has the black dial but a brown insert, is this an aftermarket insert or something or was it supposed to come this way?

It's informally known as a Rootbeer. Google Rolex Rootbeer and you'll see loads.

That is a insert for a "Root Beer" GMT.That watch with the Black Dial should have came with a all Black insert with Gold Numbers.

It's tough to tell from your pictures but I think the dial is refinished. The date wheel also looks like it's been replaced. I would keep looking.

So do you think this watch was supposed to be with a black insert and black dial or rootbeer insert with brown dial? Also note the t>25 lume designation I haven't seen that on many of these?

Case overpolished, as is crystal(or aftermarket), service luminova handsand service/replacement insert. Unless you are "stealing" it for a daily beater, leave this well alone, there are lots in much better condition.(IMO)

Here is a picture of mine and you can compare. The bezel inserts can easily be swapped in and out so thats not a big deal. My concern would be the dial, the condition of the case, the replaced hands and replaced date wheel.

Beautiful watch but not a good comparison for the OP. The OP says it is a 16753 thus his dial will be different, i.e., swiss t<25, etc.

OP can you take a better picture of the dial unobstructed so the writing, crown, etc., can be viewed.

Mine is a 16753. I am not aware of any of the 16753 dials marked the way the OP's is so I am guessing its refinished (the pics make it hard to tell). The service nipple dials read swiss only as far as I know.

Mine is black with a mismatched root beer insert so maybe thats throwing you off.

I think the dial looks like a Rooter dial to me and the insert has faded. That hands look new and so does the date wheel. Love a root beer but have seen better examples. A very underrated watch in my mind, just not this one.

Yes, if it was a root beer, the dial would be brown/bronze with the two insert as in your picture and/or all brown insert.

Now, can you get another picture of that dial?

Thanks, Justin. I wonder if there was a service nipple dial with swiss t<25?

There was a post on VRF about a reference on Patrizzi's book 1997 Edition, pages 250 - 252 that according to the poster, it shows "two 16750 and one 16753, all with the word swiss fully spelled out and to the left of the 6 marker, a - directly under the marker and shortening the 30 sec mark, followed by T<25 to the right of that"..

Does anyone have this book to see if they refer to a nipple dial?!

The 1675 nipple dials and the 16753 nipple dials did not come marked swiss t < 25.
