I am only new to the forum, so I will try and help you out.
When u bought the watch, did they give you any other pictures? If so, post them here. The pictures. The one that can help with determining the age is the stamp on the case back. The stamping on the case back will also have the model number of it and the numbers under that will give you the year of assembly/ make. If you don't have those, then the picture of the serial number. That picture is the one of the side of the watch with the band who off there will be a series on numbers, not the one that says 1601 - but the other side and the serial numbers would give you and indication of the year.

Sigma dial- usually means white gold or gold hour makers. You need close up pictures at the base of the dial. the markings below the dial in the 6 position will tell you if it is sigma dial. If it is "O Swiss O" or similar, then it is the sigma dial. It is the O that signifies the sigma.

Date function. Since u have the watch, what did u deduce on settings the date?
I have found a site that helps with setting of the date on Rolex.
http://www.jonathanswatchbuyer.com/2...olex-datejust/

Wide boy- the markers that I have seen to be considered wide boy have slightly wider dimensions compared to the 1601 that u have. But compared to the 1603, I would have said that the 1601 would be considered as wide boy.

I hope that helps.

Wide boy pic:

Based on the pics I found on Google, the 1601 you have would not be a wide boy.
I do hope that the more experienced forum posters will jump in for their opinion.

Very nice looking watch!

Not a wide boy, not a sigma dial.

As mentioned, wide boy would have thicker batons and hands.

Sigma dial would have a designation "0 T Swiss T O"

Also the model number is 16000= 5 numbers. i have been searching (my birth year of 1971) and the rolexes have stampings that only have 4 numbers. So... i can only guestimate that your model number has 5 numbers means that the watch is around the 1980s onwards....

There is another picture that is missing. the vendor has given the "registered design 1601" on the side of the dial. there shoudl be another pic on the opposite side. that would be the serial number of the watch which will also help in identifying the year of make. are there other pics???

The watch looks really pristine which makes me think that it is a younger watch v older/ vintage watch.

they usually take a pic of it but block out the last 3-4 digits. that way you can determine the serial number and therefore the approx date of make. Yes, you will need to take the band off and assess it.

yes the case back is a newer one for the series of 1600 = 1600, 1601, 1603... not the original case back which would have stamped 1601 and the year of which it was assembled.

What i have discovered is the the RSC will replace old parts to newer parts to ensure the service-ablilty of the watch. but that of course changes the vintage-ness of the watch.. but you want a working watch, right?

exciting... cant wait till you have the watch in your possession and take more pics for us to see! Woo hoo!

As stated, not a wide boy but everything looks very nice.

The jubilee looks to be in nice shape from the photos. If it's comfortable to you, I'd say keep it but a leather strap for a change of pace occasionally. With a little practice, it will become very easy to swap them out.

Yes you must run the minute hand forward to change the date.

Here's a link to a serial number/date chart that I believe to fairly accurate:

FYI Here's a wide boy dial and hands on a DJ.
