Course for Repair/restoration of Antique clocks and Watches
For anyone who is interested/doesn't already know... there's a two day course, run by the BHI (British Horological Institute) concerning the repair of a specific watch/clock, which you bring along to the course. With the aid of the tutor, you will learn how to repair it, if at all possible. No qualifications are needed, it appears that this course would be suitable for any vintage watch that has been considered to be beyond economical repair. At the very least, the tutor should be able to help you discover if there is anything at all that can be done for the watch. Basically, for an old mechanical watch, where for example, the timing is well out of sync, has loose hands etc, etc, where its not economic to send the watch away to an authorised dealer. Some perhaps useful info could be picked up from a course like this, IMHO. The BHI runs various other short courses regarding auto movements, day-date etc. I suspect other watch dealers make use of these courses for basic knowledge...not Rolex dealers of course!
The BHI training courses website link is :- http://bhi.co.uk/training-education/short-courses/ Could be interesting, even useful for vintage watch lovers. |
