i wouldn't.

I was reading an article the other day about just that (buying things with crypto). Bad idea. Its not a currency its an asset or an investment. Something that fluctuates that wildly should not be considered a currency and it makes little sense to pay for anything with it. No judgement about crypto itself just how it should be classified.

This is too vague to be useful, what are you trying to accomplish?

Largely depends on which crypto you are spending. Given there are 1400 of them, plenty of them can be used for payments without problem. It is no different at all from sending a wire, if a price is agreed upon, and coins are sent to an address, then you bought yourself an asset. Like a wire, if the end user doesn't keep his word you are equally screwed, but crypto is absolutely fine to use for payment.

I get the vibe that these should be liquidated where possible and turned into other assets if possible, such as PPs, while you can...

i know its fine, it just doesn't make sense. The same way it doesn't make sense to pay for something with a stock the fluctuates thousand of dollars a day. You sell those "assets" at a time that fits your investment objectives, not when its time to buy something. Thats my thought anyway.

Pay for for a pizza with crypto and you could have spent $20 or $1000 for that pizza depending on where the price went the following day or hour.

I heard a funny story a month ago during one of the bitcoin runups about a guy who bought bitcoin to purchase some sort of black market propecia. He bought about $300 worth in 2010. Turns out, he actually spent like 20 million on it by today's pricing.

Don’t see how you could purchase a Patek with crypto unless it’s on the black market

Why not? If I could choose "some stocks from your Scottrade account" as an easy checkout option next to PayPal, etc, I would sometimes. That'd be great. The volatility is really irrelevant. Thinking of the cost of selling at the "wrong" time is fallacious imho; you can't wonder "what if the price goes up?" Well, what if you...don't buy any bitcoin to begin with and the price goes up? It might go down too, so there's nothing wrong with taking profits--and why must all profits be in the form of fiat currency?

It appears that, for him, it's both.

There’s a guy named olivesales here that takes it. I have no idea if he’s trustworthy at all so do your due diligence. Just passing on the word. He usually lists Pateks.

Exactly. Turn the ethereal currency into hard currency before the bubble pops. I would do the same if was speculating in the digital currency market.

Most people who don't hold crypto would. Most people can't handle a heavily-manipulated market that crashes every couple months. Nor should they! It's not suitable for the masses now imho. But, if I took this advice I'd have sold 10-15 bubbles ago, and I'm glad I didn't.

On another note, overstock has a few Pateks for sale and they take crypto. :)

The lambo dealer down the street has sold MANY with Bitcoin.
Someone bought a $5m house in my neighborhood with BTC.

Anyways, if you want to do a big purchase with BTC, check out bitpay.com

Why don't you convert to fiat first and purchase at your local AD?
