Happened to a buddy of mine. He came home from work and the only thing in the house was a mattress on the floor of the bedroom.
He would still angry say “What kind of crazy ..... takes the ice cube trays!?” |

The account is real and any underlying facts or employee explanations will be assessed by those above me in the so-called company chain of command. If you're referring to the overall validity of my OP/thread topic, go easy with any false accusations.

Back to the OP, unfortunately for some this sort of occurrence is not new. I've heard of a few similar scenarios when I was at sea. I'm not talking about the bullshit reasons for missing work but finding one's home completely stripped or worse. I knew of a couple of guys who went home to find the house empty and their significant other had done a runner with all their possessions. One particularly unfortunate chap arrived home after a three month trip to find his key didn't fit in the front door lock. Turns out his wife had dumped him and changed the locks in his absence but didn't bother to tell him. I also sailed with another guy who had a slightly less dramatic but possibly more traumatic experience in that he returned home to find his wife had sold his vintage Alfa. To add insult to injury, she only got about half of what it was actually worth.

My brother had a friend who came home after work one day to an empty house, everything gone... including the light bulbs.

Now that I am thinking about it I had a friend that was married for a long time. Him and the wife did have some issues but thought they were working thru them. He, like I, travels for work sometimes. He came home one week and her and all her stuff was gone.
Think she left his stuff though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I am not one to pump up BC, but my sister did have a finance who disappeared one day while she was at work with the 1/2 of the furniture that he bought to the relationship. He did at least leave her a note! So it can happen.
On a related topic, I have also worked with a person who came home from work to discover that someone had literally turned up with a moving van, broke into their house and stole everything!!!!!! down to running shoes left outside... obviously they had to do the lot to "justify" people not looking twice.

Happened to a guy I work with.
We are usually out of town Monday through Friday, sometimes longer. So she had the time to do it. Took all of his stuff. |

I didn't see his comment as sexist. The type behavior described (take everything and leave) actually is reflective of how some women behave. It's also reflective of how some men behave.

The ex-girlfriend (for lack of a better word) made a 'clean getaway' and cellphone pics of a ransacked apartment confirmed his dilemma. Management gave him a stern lecture on keeping them informed of any prolonged absences and since he will now be forced to pay off these items (many of which were charged on his Visa/MC), he was able to retain his position in the company as a paid intern as he is a good worker (when he's around). Unfortunately a second 'moonlighting' job may be required to cover his living expenses, car payments and the items lost. Over coffee this morning, he mentioned the possibility of working P/T at a hardware store or a fast-food joint and maybe moving back in with his parents. An unfortunate way to start-off after a year out of college. He also got a lecture from his father who admonished him about using better judgement when it comes to his choice of women + a check for $1K to apply towards the upcoming charge account billings. This will help out but he will still owe about $4-5K and so it might be time to explore one of those interest-free credit card offerings with a balance transfer option. When I asked him what he had learned from this particular 'experience', he replied that while it is getting harder to trust people these days, something like this could easily happen again. |
